Joel and Victoria Osteen’s daily devotional February 28, 2017 – You Have the Advantage
Today’s Scripture: "…His favor is for a lifetime…" - (Psalm 30:5, AMP)
Topic: You Have the Advantage [Tuesday February 28, 2017]
One definition of the word “favor” is an advantage for success. When you put God first, when you obey His commands, you open the door for His favor—you have the advantage for success! Even if someone may have wronged you and it looks like they have the upper hand, even if it looks like things are never going to change, you need to keep reminding yourself, “I have an advantage. God is in control of my destiny. He’s fighting my battles for me.
From Libya with woes
Written by the Editorial Board of The Guardian Newspaper
Within two weeks this month, more than 300 young Nigerians were repatriated from Libya in two batches by the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) in collaboration with the Nigerian embassy in Libya. These are just the latest groups in an exercise that has reportedly been on for the past 14 months. In some cases, the returnees have acted voluntarily; in others, they have been forced out of the country by Libyan authorities. In every case, however, the returnees have nothing but tales of woe and expressions of regret for their decision to leave their country in search of the so-called, and as it has turned out, elusive, ‘greener pasture.’

Joyce Meyer's daily devotional February 28, 2017 – Be Patient
Topic: Be Patient [Tuesday February 28, 2017]
But let endurance and steadfastness and patience have full play and do a thorough work, so that you may be [people] perfectly and fully developed [with no defects], lacking in nothing. — James 1:4
James teaches us that we can rejoice when we find ourselves involved in difficult situations, knowing that God is trying our faith to bring out patience. I have found that trials did eventually bring out patience in me, but first they brought a lot of other junk to the surface—such as pride, anger, rebellion, self-pity, complaining, and many other things. It seems that these ungodly traits, with God’s help, need to be faced and dealt with because they hinder patience as well as other good fruit like kindness, love, humility, and other things.

Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ. Ephesians 4:13
The intention of God is that we grow to the measure of the stature of the of the fullness of Christ. The Lord's intention is that we grow in Him, so that we won't be tossed to and fro by every wind of doctrine. One of Satan's deceptive weapons these last days is false doctrine. And the Lord does not want us to fall victim of Satan's deception.
Dunamis’ Daily Devotional February 28, 2017 by Pastor Paul Enenche – The Tragedy of Competition
Topic: The Tragedy of Competition [Tuesday February 28, 2017]
Scripture: If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen? And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also. 1 John 4:20-21
Thought For The Day: The presence of strife is the absence of God.
One of the dangerous tragedies of life and destiny is competition. This is because unhealthy competition limits a man’s destiny.

In this exercise, you take long, slow, deep breaths (also known as abdominal or belly breathing). As you breathe, disengage your mind from distracting and troubling thoughts and sensations, says Julie Corliss, Executive Editor of Harvard Heart Letter. You should let your breath flow as deep down into your belly as possible (without forcing it), and breathe out without pausing or holding your breath, just let it flow out gently.

Text: Psalm 12:1-8
Key Verse: "They speak vanity every one with his neighbour: with flattering lips and with a double heart do they speak" (Psalm 12:2).
Disappointments, disagreements and destructions are some of the tragic occurrences in human history. These are often associated with the misuse of the tongue. Yet, it is quite surprising that many people have not learnt to refrain from unguarded speech. The Psalmist raised some issues that are crucial to the happiness of all people. With genuine concern, he observed the absence of godly and faithful persons whose presence would have sanitized society and enhanced high morality among the people. Alas, their presence bred vanity, flattery, proud talks and oppression.

Many commit suicide because of the despair of loneliness. Thousands have found Christ to be the answer for their loneliness. The Hebrew children were not alone when they were hurled into the fiery furnace of persecution.

God promises that there are set times in our future, but He doesn’t tell us when they will be. Your set time may be tomorrow morning at 9:47. You’ll get the phone call you’ve been waiting for. Your set time may be two years from now. You’ll get a good break and that will thrust you to a new level. My question is, “Do you trust God enough to believe that your set times are coming?” Are you willing to wait with a good attitude? Are you willing to get a new perspective?
Saying bye to the Danfo in Lagos
Written by the Editorial Board of The Guardian Newspaper
The desire to give Lagos a world-class transportation system apparently informed the recent disclosure by Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode that he intends to remove the yellow mini-buses popularly called Danfo from the city’s roads by the end of the year. The Danfo experience in Lagos is a cocktail of sadness and joy. But there is no denying that the city deserves better and the government’s plan is in order.
Daily, commuters go through hell in the hands of miscreant Danfo drivers and their assistants who molest, assault and even rob at will. Ambode’s move should therefore be encouraged if only to curb hooliganism and touting, as well as sanitise intra-city transportation.

And the Gentiles shall see thy righteousness, and all kings thy glory: and thou shalt be called by a new name, which the mouth of the LORD shall name. Isaiah 62:2. Read: Isa 62:1-4
When you go through the Bible, you discover that there are many people who their names are known and mentioned. There are other people who were simply recognized and mentioned by their problems. Their problems took and overshadowed their names. The Bible never made mention of their names but their problems. Their problems made them popular. Many lives have been stigmatized. In 2 Ki 5:1-14, the Bible talks about general Naaman who was a great man of Valor, but he was a leper. He was not supposed to live where men live but in an isolated place, but because of his importance, the king of Syria could not isolate him. The woman with the issue of blood is known by her problem, the Bible never mentioned her name. She was healed by Jesus Christ, her name was still not mentioned. Mk 5:25-34

But God, Who is all-knowing, seeing beyond our imaginations and our views, always comes up with the right choice, although it might not sit down well with men.

8 Ways to Deal with Sweaty Armpits
It can be very uncomfortable - even agitating - to get dressed, looking all smart and appealing, only for something as little as sweat under your arms to ruin it all. There is something unarguably embarrassing about having the underarm of your dress, blouse or shirt drenched in sweat, and it gets worse if it’s the only sweat-stained part of your clothing. Asides this, there is also the unpleasant odour resulting from such underarm sweating to deal with. It could all be a frustrating experience indeed.

Key Verse: "Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it" (Matthew 7:14).
One of the difficulties travelers on first visit usually face is finding their way. The difficulty becomes complex if the traveler comes to a crossroads where he/she has to take a decision which way to go. At such a time, it becomes imperative to seek a guide. The same is true of every person who is a stranger in the journey of life. Two ways are before us all. One is straight and narrow which leads to eternal life; the other is broad with a wide gate. The first way leads to eternal life with God but the latter to hell with Satan.

Everyone who does evil hates the light. John 3:20
The Greek philosopher Plato (c. 427–c. 348 bc) found an imaginative way of shining light on the dark side of the human heart. He told the story of a shepherd who innocently discovered a golden ring that had been hidden deep in the earth. One day a great earthquake opened up an ancient mountainside tomb and revealed the ring to the shepherd. By accident he also discovered that the ring had the magical ability to enable the wearer to become invisible at will. Thinking about invisibility, Plato raised this question: If people didn’t have to worry about being caught and punished, would they resist doing wrong?

There is also comfort in mourning, because in the midst of mourning God gives a song. His presence in our lives changes our mourning into song, and that song is a song of comfort. This kind of comfort is the kind which enabled a devout Englishman to look at a deep dark hole in the ground where his home stood before the bombing and say, “I always did want a basement. Now I can jolly well build another house, like I always wanted.”

Vital secrets for a Successful Family (4) by Pastor Faith Oyedepo
Author: Pastor Faith Oyedepo |
Dear Reader,
I welcome you once again in Jesus’ name. Today I want to ask this question: Who truly are the real mothers? In this concluding segment of Family Life for this month, we will be looking at what God’s Word has to say about the mother in the home.
One reason God instituted the marital union of the man and woman was to bring forth godly seeds; and if we must have godly seeds, then we must have godly mothers. I always tell people that thieves have mothers, who did not do a good job of caring for their children at the right time. I read an inscription once that says, “It is better to train a child than to repair an adult!” Children are like fresh fish, you can bend them any way, but adults are like dry fish, any attempt to bend them will break them. A wise man once said that the greatest factory, where the most important product in the world is being made, is the home. That is where children are raised.

Topic: Be Merciful [26/02/2017]
Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. Matthew 5:7. Read: Matt 5:43-48
The Bible says in Lamentations 3:22, It is of the LORD's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. Mercy is the nature of God Almighty towards all humans on earth. Psalm 145:9 says, The LORD is good to all: and his tender mercies are over all his works. Whether good or bad, His mercy extends to all. It's also through the multitude of His mercies that you were rescued from destruction. Isaiah 54:7 For a small moment have I forsaken thee; but with great mercies will I gather thee. This season, His mercies will search you out for His blessings in Jesus name.
Still on the closure of Abuja airport
Written by the Editorial Board of The Guardian Newspaper
As fears grow over the imminent closure of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA), Abuja, from March 8, 2017, for the resurfacing of its tarmac, it is imperative to, once again, reiterate to the government of the day since all entreaties before now appear to have fallen on deaf ears, that it should reconsider closing the airport, for obvious economic and safety reasons.
No airport anywhere in the world has ever been totally closed for such a long time for routine tarmac resurfacing. Airport tarmacs can be resurfaced at night or weekends without disrupting normal aviation operations. Nigeria should not be different.

Thought For The Day: The intensity of your spirituality is equal to the intensity of your praise.

We are, however, wrong. For it is in sufferings that we get better, and learn very vital life's lessons. It is in our challenges that we are shaped.

Text: Nehemiah 8:9-18
Key Verse: "For all the people wept, when they heard the words of the law" (Nehemiah 8:9).
Sorrow has its place in human affairs even though people detest it. In the midst of joy and pleasure, humans by nature are prone to forgetfulness and wanton actions that drive a wedge between them and God. However, when cast down, we are compelled to reflect. God’s word has a way of breaking us down. Among the Jews in our text, the word they heard from the priests and Levites produced an effect on them: they wept and mourned because of their departure from the truth. There is however joy after sorrow like sunlight after snow.

Christ can rid you of inner conflict. Man without God is always torn between two urges. His nature prompts him to do wrong, and his conscience urges him to do right. Antagonistic desires and crossed-up emotions keep him in a state of personal instability. Medical men have almost concluded that this conflict is the basis of much physical breakdown and nervous collapse.

Nigeria: The Paradox of a Corrupt Opposition Party in Power
By SKC Ogbonnia
The All Peoples Congress (APC) gained the Nigerian presidency on an enchanting mantra of change, particularly change from the tide of an endemic corruption that characterized the 16-year reign of the People Democratic Party (PDP). Unfortunately, however, over one and half years after it lost power, virtually all structures of government have remained in the firm grip of the PDP, the now opposition party. Not surprisingly, the hope for the much-anticipated change is gradually becoming a pipe dream.

But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you. (Matthew 5:44)
An adversary is an enemy that is constantly and continually against us. Many a times, we are faced with antagonists who would give anything to bring us down. This has left many believers in confusion, as they don't know what to do about these people who attack them for no reason, and as examples they can't fight back as it were. Plus, Christ also said in Matthew 5:39 "....whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also." This leaves them wondering what action can be taken in the face of oppression.

Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do. Hebrews 4:13. Read: Psalm 51:1-11
I am guilty Lord was the loud cry of a woman whom the LORD opened her eyes to see her eternal nakedness and destitute. When she looked beyond this present world, she saw the light of the Lord which beamed on her entire life and spotted her gray paths out. She saw all her secret sins, all her lies, her costly jesting, little lies she never considered to be lies; all her waywardness. She saw all her fornication and adulterous lifestyle, all her secret lust, love for money. She saw all the people who looked up to her as a role model and how she has misled them all in the name of fashion, all these were written down in bold letters beside her name. She also saw countless opportunities the Lord gave her to repent of her sins but turned down Jesus' invitations, she saw the names of all the preachers, the time and the places they preached to her both in the bus and with tracts. Seeing all these, she opted with a loud voice, "I am guilty as charged Lord". God forgave her.

But when you pray, go into your [most] private room, and, closing the door, pray to your Father, Who is in secret; and your Father, Who sees in secret, will reward you in the open. — Matthew 6:6
Jesus rose early to be alone with God, but Peter pursued Him to let Him know that everyone was looking for Him (see Mark 1:35-36). When you get alone to pray, it may seem that everybody tries to hunt you down. But Jesus sought time alone with God so He could focus on His purpose.

But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money. (Acts 8:20)
Acts 8:9-24 tells of the ministry of the gospel in Samaria, of the miracles done by the apostles through the Holy Spirit, of how a certain man named Simon offered Peter money to purchase the power of Holy Spirit so he too could lay hands on people and do various miracles. Peter's answer to Him was clear "thou Hast neither part nor lot In this matter: for thy heart is not right in the sight of God." (Acts 8:21).

Christ taught you! If you have really heard his voice . . . then throw off your old evil nature-the old you that was a partner in your evil ways . . . — Ephesians 4:20-22 (TLB)
Paul before his conversion was not meek. Proudly and brutally, he apprehended all Christians and sought to destroy them. He was bigoted, selfish, and vaunted. But when he wrote his warm and affectionate letter to the churches of Galatia, he said, among other things, “The fruit of the Spirit is . . . gentleness, goodness . . . meekness.” His meekness was something God-given, not something man-made. It is not our nature to be meek. On the contrary, it is our nature to be proud and haughty. That is why the new birth is so essential to each of us.

Choose you this day whom ye will serve. - Joshua 24:15
Choosing to side with God's Word is a continual challenge. It's not something you do just once. It's a process of choosing to believe and act upon the Word of God over and over in every circumstance.

Because my servant Caleb has a different spirit and follows me wholeheartedly, I will bring him into the land he went to, and his descendants will inherit it. Numbers 14:24
Caleb was a “wholehearted” person. He and Joshua were part of a twelve-man reconnaissance team that explored the Promised Land and gave a report to Moses and the people. Caleb said, “We should go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it” (Num. 13:30). But ten members of the team said they couldn’t possibly succeed. In spite of God’s promises, they saw only obstacles (vv. 31–33).

Text: 1 Samuel 18:22-30
Key Verse: "And Saul said, Thus shall ye say to David, The king desireth not any dowry, but an hundred foreskins of the Philistines, to be avenged of the king's enemies. But Saul thought to make David fall by the hand of the Philistines" (1 Samuel 18:25).
Offering bribes, gifts, gratifications, is a well-oiled strategy in the secular world to influence decisions, solicit assistance, curry favour and pervert the course of justice. King Saul was very adept at this strategy. He had become envious of David whose popularity had spread throughout Israel because of his military conquests. David’s Lord was with him and everywhere he went, he behaved so wisely that even Saul’s daughter, Michal, fell in love with him.

Stop Testing God

And she said, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he awoke out of his sleep, and said, I will go out as at other times before, and shake myself. And he wist not that the LORD was departed from him. Judges 16:20. Read: Rom 6:1-2
If there is anyone that tested God so much in the Bible days was Samson. As a Nazareth from the womb, there were so many things he was not supposed to engage in. He was not supposed to touch the death let alone eating from what is taken from the death. First, Samson killed a lion and after many days, he went there and took honey out of the carcase of the lion and ate it. Second, he went to marry in the camp of their enemy - Philistine. Samson went to Gaza and saw a harlot, went in unto her. Immediately, he went to uproot the gate of the city. Whenever he gets up from sin, God usually comes upon him, as a result, he thought it would continue.

Joyce Meyer's daily devotional February 24, 2017 – Filled with His Light
Topic: Filled with His Light [Friday February 24, 2017]
And this is the message [the message of promise] which we have heard from Him and now are reporting to you: God is Light, and there is no darkness in Him at all [no, not in any way]. [So] if we say we are partakers together and enjoy fellowship with Him when we live and move and are walking about in darkness, we are [both] speaking falsely and do not live and practice the Truth [which the Gospel presents]. — 1 John 1:5-6
So often the things we try to hide by burying them deep inside ourselves become darkness within us. But this passage tells us in God there is no darkness at all. So when we allow Him full entrance into our hearts and minds, there will be no darkness there. I am so glad that God fills every room in my heart, so that I am filled with His light. There are no places in my heart that I know of that are blocked off from Him and the light that comes with His presence. Often one of the signs that we are walking in the light of the Gospel is that we have good relationships with everyone with whom we come in contact in our daily lives—including our spouse and our children.

Scripture: “Why art thou cast down O my soul? And why art thou disquieted in me? Hope thou in God; for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance” Psalm 42:5
Thought For The Day: Whenever a man is depressed, his reasoning is blocked.
Yesterday, we saw that depression is a killer of destiny; it was a challenge in the life of Prophet Elijah who could not confront and conquer Jezebel whom he was destined to handle.

Text: Mark 11:27-33
Key Verse: "The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or of men? answer me" (Mark 11:30).
The humanity and divinity of our Lord Jesus Christ are awe inspiring. His birth as a man marks His identification with humans. His manifestation as the Son of God was a mystery that shows His authority over the affairs of humanity. Our text reveals one of the instances in which Jesus was tempted by some of the leaders of Judaism in Israel, "the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders" (Mark 11:27).
