A community in Ondo battles unknown ailment

The shrine
By Femi Makinde and Gbenga Adeniji

Despite the hue and cry over recent deaths in Ode-Irele in Irele Local Government Area of Ondo State, residents carry on without care.

Motorists irritatingly blared horns, shops opened for sales, children ran gaily on the streets, relaxation joints were filled to the brim and soothing music filtered loudly from speakers in halls where ceremonies held.

Pastor Faith Oyedepo: Sunday April 19, 2015 Daily Devotional - Being an encouragement to your Child

Topic: Being an encouragement to your Child [Sunday April 19, 2015]

“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” -Proverbs 22:6

Child training calls for vigilance and diligence. You must be willing and ready to take up the responsibility, because it is a full time calling. Every child is born with a mission. Perhaps that is why children come with their hands clenched; they come clutching God’s plan in their hands in readiness for fulfilment.

Why Senate asked Jonathan to return original copy of Constitution Amendment Bill

Contrary to the content of the letter that President Goodluck Jonathan refused to sign the Constitution Amendment Bill   because of alleged usurpation of executive powers by the National Assembly in the bill, among other reasons, there is an allegation that Jonathan signed the original amendment bill.

Sources close to  the Senate told Sunday Vanguard that because the original Constitution Amendment Bill sent to the president for his assent was allegedly signed before the change of mind,  the Senate is demanding that the President  returns the original copy of the bill forwarded to it.

DCLM Daily Manna, Sunday April 19, 2015 by Pastor Kumuyi – Worthy Legacies

Topic: Worthy Legacies [Sunday April 19, 2015]

Text: 1 Chronicles 8:1-13

Key verse: “Beriah also, and Shema, who were heads of the fathers of the inhabitants of Aijalon, who drove away the inhabitants of Gath” (1 Chronicles 8:13).

It is an ugly thing to pass through this life without leaving any worthy mark. It is true that everyone does some activities, but mere activities are not enough. The famous American inventor and businessman, Thomas A. Edison, captured this truth thus, “Being busy does not always mean real work. The object of all work is production or accomplishment and to either of these ends there must be forethought, system, planning, intelligence, and honest purpose, as well as perspiration. Seeming to do is not doing.” Genealogical listing such as we have in today’s text hardly has room for detailed account of the lives of the individual characters or families. Here is the family tree of the tribe of Benjamin. These verses made no significant comment on the lives and times of the names listed.

Open Heavens 19 April 2015: Sunday daily devotion by Pastor E. A. Adeboye – Back to Your Vomit?

Topic: Back to Your Vomit? [Sunday April 19, 2015]

Memorise: And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God. - Luke 9:62

Read: 2 Peter 2:20-22

20 For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning.

21 For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.

Pastor Faith Oyedepo: Saturday April 18, 2015 Daily Devotional - Praying for your spouse

Topic: Praying for your spouse [Saturday April 18, 2015]

“Epaphras, who is one of you, a servant of Christ, saluteth you, always labouring fervently for you in prayers, that ye may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God.” - Colossians 4:12-

Before I got married, I learnt to pray for my husband. I prayed for the works of his hand, ministry, spiritual life, emotions and virtually any/everything I could think of. I did this because I had the understanding that prayer is the master key to opening every door; changing situations and even people. After we got married, my prayers for him didn’t reduce; rather, they intensified.

DCLM Daily Manna, Saturday April 18, 2015 by Pastor Kumuyi – Can You Bear This Cross?

Topic: Can You Bear This Cross? [Saturday April 18, 2015]

Text: Luke 23:26-46

Key verse: “And as they led him away, they laid hold upon one Simon, a Cyrenian, coming out of the country, and on him they laid the cross, that he might bear it after Jesus” (Luke 23:26).

Without any pressures to make special sacrifices for the Lord, every believer claims to love and hold Him dearly. In moments to act it out, some believers will begin to drag their feet or simply flee.

Memorise: The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself. - Proverbs 11:25

Read: Genesis 23:12-14

12 And Abraham bowed down himself before the people of the land.

13 And he spake unto Ephron in the audience of the people of the land, saying, But if thou wilt give it, I pray thee, hear me: I will give thee money for the field; take it of me, and I will bury my dead there.
