Topic: Unalloyed Faith in God [Wednesday November 18, 2015]

Text: Hebrews 11:26-29

Key Verse: “By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible” (Hebrews 11:27).

Amy Carmichael prayed: “Give me the love that leads the way, the faith that nothing can dismay, the hope no disappointments tire, the passion that will burn like fire, let me not sink to be a clod: make me Thy fuel, flame of God.” Our text reveals men with uncommon faith that moved the hands of God.

It shows men of history, who stood in the gap to avoid destruction on God’s people. It x-rays men who conquered kingdoms, obtained promises and stopped the mouths of lions. Many years after Joseph’s death, the new king of Egypt was uncomfortable with the growing number of the Israelites. This Pharaoh subjected the Israelites to slavery and ordered the killing of their baby boys at birth. But Moses’ parents trusted God and defied the king’s order. They hid him for three months. When they could no longer sustain the act, they placed him beside the river, where Pharaoh’s daughter, by providence, saw him and adopted him as her son. His parents, by divine arrangement, nursed him before he went to live in Pharaoh’s palace. But when Moses grew up, he refused to be called Pharaoh’s daughter’s son. He chose instead to go back to his own people, who were poor slaves.

He chose to suffer with them rather than have a comfortable life without God. Obviously, his parents had imparted into him godly virtues. Moses demonstrated absolute confidence in God and what never happened in the history of mankind was accomplished through him. He was a peculiar man of God who was mightily used. How is your take in life? Do you value the things of this world more than the promises of Christ? Do you have a living flaming faith that can lead you to surrender totally and be obedient to the commandments of Christ? Pray never to disappoint God.

Thought for the day: Temptation exercises our faith and prompt us to pray more.
