This is my commandment, that ye love one another, as I have loved you. John 15:12
We’re all familiar with the commandment of love; new commandment given by Christ for us to love one another, as by this the world will know we are the disciples of Christ (John 13:35). Having this settled, the next question that arises is: how does Christ loves us? Well simple, He sacrificed Himself for us. John 15:13 says: “greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” That’s obvious, but that’s not all. Here are some practical ways He loved His disciples and in extension, us. Firstly, He took out time to explain things to them. In Matthew 13:36 scriptures say “then Jesus sent the multitude away, and went into the house: and his disciples came unto him, saying, declare unto us the parable of the tares of the field.” After He told parables to the multitude, his disciples got to hear the meaning of such parables, and therefore they became better equipped to walk with them.
Secondly, He comforted them. John 16:22 emphasizes that when it says: “and ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you.” After telling them things to come that brought sadness to their hearts, He comforted and encouraged them with His words. Thirdly, He was patient with them. In Matthew 16:6-12, Christ had just finished answering the Pharisees of their wickedness, and then He tells His disciples “take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadduces.” We would expect that they understand, but then they started thinking of actual bread. He should have been very pissed at them, and dismiss them altogether, but He took time to remind them of the miracles of feeding the four thousand and five thousand, and how bread wasn’t an issue. Then they understood what He meant. He alsp prayed for them (John 17:6-26). He called on the Father on their behalf, and made their case before the Father.
These are four practical ways to live like Christ did; teach and explain, comfort in times of distress, be patient, and always pray for others. By these and more we show practical love, and not just theory.
Keep winning daily.
