DCLM Daily Manna, Monday November 2, 2015 by Pastor Kumuyi – A Noble Call

Topic: A Noble Call [Monday November 2, 2015]

Text: Luke 9:1-9

Key Verse: “And he said unto them, Take nothing for your journey, neither staves, nor scrip, neither bread, neither money; neither have two coats apiece” (Luke 9:3).

Most carnal minds will sell their souls for fleeting material considerations because they are driven by real or anticipated material benefits. To them, a person’s worth is determined by what he possesses as against the sacred values he propagates. The number of those driven by the noblest of virtues is very few. The instructions given by our Lord Jesus Christ in today’s passage contrast sharply with the practices of many preachers and religious practitioners today.

While He sent His dis- ciples, equipping them with power and authority, He expected them to live lives of absolute dependence on God in their journeys. All those things Christ told them not to take could constitute distractions on their way which may reduce their efficiency and performance. He instructed them to show that in all things, they were ambassadors for God, and should therefore, continue with His charges. What a challenge to those who must possess cars, houses, fat salaries and even a guarantee of pension allowance before they can take the initial steps of missionary journeys today! It is evident that the Lord who sends believers has all it takes for them to make ends meet.

Preachers who muddle things up by placing material things before the primary message need to retrace their steps to the foot of the cross at Calvary and allow the Saviour to lead them, and not just run on their own prompting. God is looking for people who will implicitly trust Him for provision, not those who are seeking to serve Him because of material benefits. As a Christian, what is your motivation for serving God? Get it right today, and allow the unlimited powers of God to be de- posited in you. Only when you cast aside the ambition for materialism, can you be more use- ful in the hands of God.

Thought for the day: There is always a choice to make between God and mammon.
