Topic: Gentle Spirit [Teens’ Open Heavens Wednesday 26th, January 2018]
Memorise: To speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, but gentle, shewing all meekness unto all men. - Titus 3:2
Read: James 3:17 (KJV)
17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.
Bible In One Year: Exodus 11-12, Matthew 18:21-35
MESSAGE:
The Operating System installed in a device will determine the function of that device. For example, there are certain things that an Android operating system can do or accept which an Apple operating system cannot do or accept. This the same with humans. Our spirit can be said to be our operating system. What our spirit allows our body to do is a pointer to what kind of spirit is in us. It could either be the Spirit of God or the spirit of the devil. This is why Jesus Christ said “by their fruits, you shall know them”. In other words, by the things they do, you will know whose spirit is in them.
When you see two people fighting you can tell that the spirit in them is not of God, because the Spirit of God is gentle and that is why it is symbolized by a dove. The spirit of the devil, on the other hand, is violent; symbolized by a roaring lion, going to and fro, seeking whom to devour
Action Point: What is your typical reaction to events around you, is it that of violence or gentleness? Watch out.
Hymn 7:
1. I am Thine 0 Lord, I have heard Thy voice,
And it told Thy love to me;
But I long to rise in the arms of faith
And be closer drawn to Thee.
Draw me nearer, nearer blessed Lord
To the cross where Thou hast died;
Draw me nearer, nearer, nearer blessed Lord,
To Thy precious, bleeding side.
2. Consecrate me now to Thy service, Lord,
By the pow'r of grace divine;
Let my soul look up with a steadfast hope,
And my will be lost in Thine.
3. Oh, the pure delight of a single hour
That before Thy throne I spend,
When I kneel in prayer, and with Thee, my God
I commune as friend with friend!
4. There are depths of love that I cannot know
Till I cross the narrow sea;
There are heights of joy that I may not reach
Till I rest in peace with Thee.
