Topic: A Praying Family [Saturday February 28, 2015]
“…The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” - James 5:16
Some years back, I had an experience with a little girl aged three. Without being told, she would kneel on the bed and mumble some words she and God only, could understand. When she’s through, she would sing in her understanding and then say, “In Jesus name we pray.” It was fun watching, because I was amazed a little girl would understand the need to pray.
I have also experienced situations where children pray out of the sincerity of their hearts for their parents and they get speedy answers from God. This is because they must have been taught at home that God would always answer when they pray. So, they hold much importance to prayer and God would always answer to their faith.
Prayer, which is an act of communicating with God, should be an important part of the family. It helps build a spiritual backup for members of the family and shields you from every plan of the enemy against your home. It also helps your family develop a relationship that grows over time with God.
A wise man once said, “A family that prays together, stays together.” How true it is, because the family altar is a strong unit that binds the home together. For effectiveness in the home, every member of the family should be taught the need to pray. You should bear in mind that whatever you develop as a habit at home, is what your family carries throughout life. This is why the Bible says, train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it.
Prayer is an act and it’s also a process of sowing seeds which you expect to produce fruits. So, cultivate the habit of praying regularly with your family and watch how situations turn in your favour.
Remain Blessed!
