Pastor Faith Oyedepo: Tuesday February 24, 2015 Daily Devotional - Building Strong Relationships

Topic: Building Strong Relationships [Tuesday February 24, 2015]

“He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.” - Proverbs 13:20

Relationships are powerful and we get involved in them at all levels and on a daily basis. In fact, the best time to build true, lasting, strong, and healthy relationships is while you are still single. This is a core area that affects every other are of your life.

Your relationships should be built on two levels. First is with your superiors: those more advanced than you; and not necessarily in age, but in wisdom, structure, and attainment. Second is, relationships with those at the same level as you.

While you are to learn from those who are ahead of you, you are also to relate with your mates, so you can share ideas. Remember, those who stand alone may fall alone. This relationship is also important so you can have an avenue to teach others what you are learning. When you do this, you increase your knowledge as well as are perfected in it.

Very importantly, every strong relationship at any level is built on well defined terms. Your purpose for entering into any relationship must be defined; and when not achieved, you must be strong enough to break such relationships. You must be sincere with yourself and those involved, as any relationship built on lies cannot last.

Then, your motive must be right. You must not enter any relationship with the aim of defrauding the other. You must also be careful not to be defrauded or used to attain selfish profits. This means that you must be willing to contribute as well as receive from the other person involved. Relationships that are one-sided usually end badly.

In the relationships you build, seek to add value. Relationships should not be based on what you can get alone, but most importantly what you can give. That is why the Bible says it more blessed to give than to receive. Giving brings about multiplication and you also always reap only of what you have sown. Therefore, be the person you want to see!

Remain blessed!
