Topic: Guilty or not guilty? [Monday March 23, 2015]
“It is better to dwell in the corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman and in a wide house.” -Proverbs 25:24
The issue of nagging is said to be most common with/among women. Some people tend to complain or nag about almost everything: from how the plates should be washed, to how the toothpaste needs to be pushed from the bottom of the tube, to how the toilet paper needs to be placed to roll over, not under; just to mention but a few. In fact, they feel nothing would be done right if they don’t nag. Little do they know, that the reverse is the case.
A woman once told the story of how she had been called a Dr. at nagging! She nagged her husband to the point that with mediation present, he confessed that it had led him to begin having suicidal thoughts. He believed it had become too much for him to handle. Due to certain experiences such as childbirth, the constant training of toddlers, juggling all at once the home, career, and children etc, women sometimes have a bit of a challenge finding the right way to express themselves in a given situation.
This is not always true but has been found to be a reason for some. It leads them to express relief through yelling and sometimes, nagging. To nag means to criticize or complain often in an annoying way; and from this definition, it obviously is annoying. This is because the person who nags repeatedly states your faults or what he or she demands, in a quarrelsome manner. People, who nag, in most cases, want things done their own way. They hardly see the benefit of other people’s suggestions, except when it is in line with theirs. Also, they want things done at their own time, whether or not it is convenient for the other person. Nagging always has a negative effect on the family, as well as your health. It drains the peace in your home and causes avoidance as no one wants to dwell with someone who nags. It also diminishes the love in marriages, leaves no place for a cordial relationship, and has been scientifically proven to potentially increase your blood pressure.
This is why some men find solace outside of their homes. So, the next time you feel like complaining, over and over again about a particular issue, think of the happiness of your spouse and family, their peace, and your health. Nagging never helps a situation, it worsens it. I know you are a woman of peace; therefore, you will seek for peace in your home.
Remain Blessed!
