Topic: The Priceless Gift [Sunday 20 September, 2015]
“Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.”-Proverbs 31:28
The gift of motherhood is priceless. It is an experience of nurturing, loving and caring for another, from inception till the end of time. Being a mother is not a destination, it is an adventure that every woman should not only look forward to, but adequately prepare for. Motherhood is not merely carrying a pregnancy and labouring to bring forth a child; there are other responsibilities such as nurturing, training and inspiring that child.
If all mothers will realize and accept the awesome responsibility of raising their children, the world would be a better place than it is today. Raising children require your investment in time, energy and resources. Mothers are raisers of generations. When your child is well-trained, he or she not only affects his or her immediate family, but a larger group of people; far more than those you would ever meet.
Truth is: A mother’s ultimate scorecard of success will be assessed by her level of success in bringing up valuable and treasured seeds, who make relevant and priceless contributions in their chosen fields of endeavour. This means that your success will be weighed not by your assets or level of education, but by who your children turn out to be. This has nothing to do with their position but their character.
George Washington, the first President of the United States of America, wrote this about his mother: “All that I am, I owe to my mother. I attribute all my successes in life to the moral, intellectual, and physical education I received from her.” That was how valuable and impactful his mother was to him. You too can be all that and more to your children; and may God grant you the continued grace.
