AD Presidential Candidate suspended by Party

The Alliance for Democracy (AD) last night suspended its presidential candidate, Rafiu Salau, saying the party does not have any presidential candidate in the February 14 elections.

In a communiqué issued at the end of an emergency National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Abuja, which was held from afternoon till late last night, the party said Salau was suspended by votes from 39 NEC members, saying he was never elected as AD presidential candidate.

Consequently, the party said Salau’s name would be withdrawn from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as its presidential candidate.

The NEC meeting was presided by AD national chairman, Senator Mojisoluwa Akinfewa.

The communiqué, signed by the party’s national publicity secretary, Olapade Fakunle, said “the party disowns Mr Rafiu Salau as our presidential candidate because he was never chosen or elected as the presidential candidate, therefore he does not represent the party in the 2015 presidential race.

“That Mr Rafiu Salau is hereby suspended indefinitely as the National Secretary of the party for various offences ranging from anti-party activities, insubordination, disrespect and disloyalty to the party.

“That the Deputy National Secretary should henceforth act as National Secretary; that the above decision was taken in the presence of the suspended National Secretary and all the NEC members with a vote of 39 in favour of the motion for his suspension and 6 against,” the communiqué said.
