America’s Secretary of State has visited Nigeria for the first time, ahead of crucial general elections. He has met with both main Presidential candidates – Goodluck and Buhari.
During his speech, John Kerry stated the international community is committed to working with Nigeria and called for peaceful elections, and that the US will continue to support the Nigerian military effort to defeat Boko Haram.
“For US Nigeria is an increasingly critical partner” stated John Kerry. The 2015 election he said will be an “opportunity for Nigeria to put an indelible stamp on what Africa wants and deserves”
John Kerry arrives in Lagos to emphasize the importance of ensuring the upcoming elections are peaceful, non-violent, and credible. The Secretary will meet with candidates President Goodluck Jonathan and Major General (Retired) Muhammadu Buhari.
