Kogi Govt Signs $8 billion MoU on Power, Housing

The present administration in Kogi State says it will remain guided by the four cornerstones of its transformation agenda towards ensuring a drastic reduction in poverty amongst its citizens.

Prof. Olugbemiro Jegede, Secretary to Kogi State Government made the assertion at the signing of $8billion memoranda of understanding (MoU) between the State Government and CRCI NIGERIA LIMITED for the development of a modern City in the Eastern Senatorial District of the State.

The MoU which focuses on the provision of power from the Okura River would provide 1,000 initial houses for low income earners, who would pay N1, 000 monthly for eight years and thereafter own the house.

Furthermore, the MoU Prof Jegede disclosed would enable the construction of another 10,000 houses for middle income earners, was described as another effort by the Capt Wada administration to scientifically and objectively tackle the development of the State as well as confronts poverty, youth empowerment and provide infrastructure.

Prof. Jegede, described the new initiative as one that will give a boost to the Agricultural initiative to the dry season farming of the State Government, assured CRCI of all the necessary support for the speedy implementation of all agreements reached.

Prof. Jegede, says the State Government looks forward to the early take off of the project which he maintained is in line with the human capital development emphasis of the Capt Wada administration.

Earlier in his remarks, Dr. Jacob Abdullahi, MD, CEO, Winners Powers Gardens Limited, the facilitator of the projector described the MoU signing as a dream come true, said the project which would create a dam in Okura River, would provide water for electricity generation and irrigation.
Dr Abdullahi disclosed that once the problem of power is solved it would serve as an attraction to investors who are willing to come and invest in the State.

In her remarks, Ambassador Rameline Kamga, Chairman CRCI Africa, the core investor for the power and housing project, said the first phase of the project has a commencement period for next year, is worth 8billion us dollar, would be invested by CRCI, commended the support given to them by Dr Jacob Abdullahi in the provision of a suitable land.

Highlights of the MoU signing were the exchange of documents by the Kogi State Government.
