The Kogi State Deputy Governor, Yomi Awoniyi has charged citizens of the State to in 2015 rededicate themselves to speaking the truth and have respect for constituted authority especially in this period of election.
The Deputy Governor while in his country home for the new year celebration bemoaned the new found habit of spreading misinformation and rumours by some persons in the state, noting that no society ever makes progress when the trade in stock of its citizens is to intentionally and for mischief purposes cast negative aspersions at her leaders.
While describing spreading of falsehood as an unhealthy trait that is fast gaining ground in the state, Awoniyi described the Capt Wada administration as one that has remained focus, and committed to improving the well-being of its citizens amidst scarce resources.
Awoniyi restated that the Capt Wada administration is guided by posterity, reason why it has continued to make service delivery it's watchword.
Awoniyi urged citizens of the state to shun spreading malicious falsehood and unfounded rumour geared towards smearing the image and dignity of constituted authorities, urged citizens to be vigilant and cross check information they discover may be contrary and detrimental to the development of the state.
The Deputy Governor lamented a situation where those in authority who are selflessly working to improve the lot of the citizens, rather than been encouraged are daily maligned, appealed to those engaged in such acts to in this new year turn a new leave.
Awoniyi appealed to citizens to deepen their commitment to ensuring a united and prosperous Kogi State in the new year, and assured that the Capt Wada led administration is resolved at improving the lot of the people of the state better than he met it.
While calling on citizens to be guided always by the virtues of peace, truth, goodwill among one another and respect for constituted authority as a way of contributing to state building, Awoniyi solicited more support for the Gov Wada led administration in the year's ahead.
He also charged the political class in the state not to heat up the polity through inflammatory statements, politics of bitterness and desperation for power, adding that all citizens must join hands not only to ensure the conduct of peaceful elections in February but the success of the transformation agenda and administration of Capt Idris Wada.
