Topic: Understanding Your Partner [Saturday March 21, 2015]
“Through wisdom is an house builded; and by understanding it is established:”-Proverbs 24:3
When you ask some married persons about their “at- home” experience, you hear them say that they wish they knew some things about their spouse before they got married. Their ignorance in some areas, made them want to change their spouse to whom they have imagined him to be.
Marriage is not about changing anyone, but understanding that we are different; and then accepting that uniqueness in your spouse.
Most people enter into marriage expecting their mate to share their recreational interests. That explains why most men, for instance, expect everyone around them to appreciate the game of football or boxing. Women on the other hand, expect to find a loyal and faithful companion; a man who makes out the time to spend with them, in spite of any busy schedules. She want that when he returns home, he can still sit around, even if only for a few minutes, to hear her tell of her day, be it interesting to him or not.
This simply implies that men need recreation to relax, while women need loyalty in order to feel secure. While both need their interests fulfilled, they should also learn to understand and respect their differences. This will prevent division, and promote understanding which will bring you both to a point of compromise. A point where you can both enjoy your differences.
Understanding is needed in every relationship. As male and female partners in marriage, you must understand and appreciate your peculiarities, which make up your personalities. Men are men, and women always will be women. Understanding the uniqueness of your gender will help you understand and appreciate the each other, thus eliminating problems from the family. As you seek to understand your spouse, I see your marriage becoming sweeter by the day!
Remain Blessed!
