Gynaecologist Forgets Mobile Phone in Woman's Abdomen

Hanan Mahmoud Abdul Karim was giving birth to her baby boy at a private hospital,
when her gynaecologist’s phone somehow dropped in her abdomen
An incredible story happened to a 36-year-old woman, who claims the doctor left his phone in her abdomen during a C-section and did not notice that, Amman, Jordan.

Hanan Mahmoud Abdul Karim was giving birth to her baby boy at a private hospital, when her gynaecologist’s phone somehow dropped unnoticed in her abdomen. After awhile the woman was discharged from hospital and only noticed something was wrong when the phone started vibrating inside her.

Commenting on the incident, Hanan’s mother Majeda Abdul Hamid said: “My daughter suffered serious pains and could not move. I brought her back to the hospital where she was treated but nothing was done for her.”   Other Hanan’s  family members also confirm the unbelievable situation.

Later Hanan was rushed to the casualty department where X-rays revealed a foreign object in her abdomen. Physicians operated on her and eventually removed the phone. However, Jordanian Health Ministry spokesman Hatem Al Azrae branded Hanan’s story as a hoax created by someone who wanted to ruin the hospital’s reputation.

Cases of “retained surgical items,” as they are known in the medical world, are quite common. As a preventable medical error, it occurs more frequently than “wrong site” surgery. The consequences of retained surgical tools include injury, repeated surgery, excess monetary cost, loss of hospital credibility and in some cases death of patient. [Mirror, naij.com]]
