Pastor Faith Oyedepo: Friday June 19, 2015 Daily Devotional – The Canal

Topic: The canal [Friday June 19, 2015]

“A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.”-Luke 6:45

Thinking about the above Scripture, I imagine the connection between the mouth and the heart as that of a canal. Amongst other definitions of canals, that of the “alimentary canal” in the body best fits what this Scripture is referring to. It is a passage or tube lined with epithelial cells that conveys secretions and/or other substances.

What comes out from your mouth as spoken words is the secretion produced from the heart, passed out through the canal, to the mouth. So, the quality of what you speak is as a result of what the heart produces. However, the heart is not the major manufacturer of what it gives the mouth, but “you”. You are the originator of what the heart produces for the mouth to speak. If you feed the heart with stories of woes and failures, it processes it, passes it over to the mouth, who speaks it and it becomes reality.

That is why people keep experiencing wrong things and they think something or someone is after them. On the contrary, they are being affected by the products of their hearts. The Bible says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue,” but the tongue is controlled by you. So, if you feed your heart with the truth from the Word of God, it tells the tongue what to say. What the tongue says in turn creates the future you desire.

If you want a transformed life therefore, you must have a transformed heart, which begins with your determination to feed your heart with the right information and words. When that is done, it passes it to the mouth to bring forth what you profess and God will always confirm the words of your mouth (Isaiah 44:26).

So with this understanding, make it a habit to search out God’s Word for answers to your situations; feed it to your heart till it understands and let it come forth out of your mouth. Then, you will see your desired change in reality. You will not fail!

Remain Blessed!
