Communities advised to protect govt. infrastructures

In an era when funds accruing to government is on the fast decline, the need for communities in Kogi State to therefore protect infrastructures provided to them by government has once again be emphasized.

Kogi State Deputy Governor, Yomi Awoniyi,gave the charge after inspecting the extent of work on Mopa water scheme and the alleged consistent sabotaged on water taps making it impossible for water to reach overhead tanks that would have enabled the supply of water as raised by the water consultant.

Awoniyi described the Mopa water scheme as one of the major water rehabilitation Capt Idris Wada has initiated under the bond project, expressed joy that the work has attained 90% completion.

Awoniyi disclosed that the water project has enjoyed guaranteed adequate funding from the capital market the state government harnessed, appealed to the people to protect the facilities because of the benefit, its expensive nature and for the sake of Mopa community that was lucky to be among several communities chosen to benefit from the government water project at this time.

Awoniyi urged the people to see the investment as their private benefit of the dividends of democracy and be prepared to protect and guide government investment.

While noting that Mopa people appreciate water and would do nothing to sabotage government's effort, Awoniyi said efforts will be made to determine if the taps where damaged unknowingly, said no bonafide son or daughter of the community will want to sabotage the water project.

Awoniyi also made a passionate appeal to the Elulu of Mopa, and Chairman Mopa Area Traditional Council, Oba Micheal Joledo to step into the matter, by constantly sensitizing people of the community on the benefit of the project and on the need to guard and protect the facility.

Earlier, the Consultant, had enumerated efforts made to ensure that Mopa town is supplied water, but lamented what the alleged sabotage, solicited the understanding of the people in ensuring that the project attains full completion.
