Kogi Govt Skill acquisition platform: Over 20,000 youths and 23,000 women directly engaged

In support of its quest for meaningful livelihood, through income generation and towards tackling headlong issues of poverty and unemployment, Kogi State government says it has created a skill
acquisition platform which has engaged over 20,000 youths and 23,000 women directly.

Kogi State governor, Capt. Idris Wada, stated this on the occasion of YAD4KOGI Micro-Enterprises Exhibition, held in Lokoja. The Governor who was represented by his Deputy, Yomi Awoniyi said the Youth Advancement Programme was designed by his administration to address the challenges of unemployment.

Capt. Wada described the success of the YAD4KOGI program as what has qualified the State for participation in the World Bank Youth Employment and Social Support Operation (YESSO). Capt. Wada described the recent inauguration of the KOICA Centre for technology advancement and the ground breaking ceremony for the Dangote Automation Centre under construction as his administration’s determination to positively and systematically turn around the trend of youths and women unemployment and poverty.

While urging the youths to remain peaceful and committed to their duties and responsible activities which, which he noted is a principal way to guaranteeing services in life, the governor promised to boost its coverage of other areas of the needs of Kogi Youths in his second term in office.

In an address, the Special Adviser on Youth and Women Development, Dr. Mrs. Temitope Shinkaiye, expressed satisfaction that most youths in the State have keyed into the cassava value chain development of the administration, and have demonstrated their willingness to contribute
to the industrialization of the state to generate employment opportunities for themselves and others.
