DCLM Daily Manna, Saturday October 31, 2015 by Pastor Kumuyi – Damning Tendencies
Topic: Damning Tendencies [Saturday October 31, 2015]
Text: Revelation 18:1-8
Key Verse: “How much she hath glorified herself, and lived deliciously, so much torment and sorrow give her: for she saith in her heart, I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow” (Revelation 18:7).
To the natural mind, it is inconceivable that this world, with all its glitz and glamour, would be totally destroyed one day. Some wondered that, “how can it be that with all its impressive, intimidating structural and social development, the flourishing economic progress, and the new heights that man has attained in the quest to conquer the earth, it would be destroyed?” It is thus, not plausible to them that in one day, all would be wiped out. God’s programme is neither open to debate nor subject to man’s sanction.
The fact is that Babylon - a metaphorical name for the present world and its evil system - would be destroyed soon. All those who exclude God from their considerations, relish worldly goods, will be swept away. Even if they have exploited the world’s system to their selfish benefits, they would be brought to account for their deeds on the judgment day. Just as they glorified themselves and lived luxuriously, so would they be tormented and made sorrowful on that day. What they feared most would befall them. They would face death, mourning and famine.
The whole world would be burned with fire, as determined by the Lord. Hence, it is dangerous to focus one’s attention on the world, exploit the sinful pleasures in the world or yield to temptations to take advantage of the evil system in the world to amass great wealth for oneself. This may bring one great fame, pleasure, security and comfort; but make one to trust self and not God. Therefore, we must then shun all tendencies to live like the world and follow Christ’s example of obedience, truthfulness, sacrifice and service to God and to our fellow men.
Thought for the day: Remember, what the world offers ends in the world
