Pastor Faith Oyedepo: Tuesday October 27, 2015 Daily Devotional – Overcoming singlehood pressures

Topic: Overcoming singlehood pressures [Tuesday 27 October, 2015]

“For your shame ye shall have double; and for confusion they shall rejoice in their portion: therefore in their land they shall possess the double: everlasting joy shall be unto them.”-Isaiah 61:7

Many families and the society we live in today see it as a shame for marriageable single who are advanced in age, to remain unmarried. In fact, in places like the western part of Nigeria, when someone (especially a female), is approaching her late 20’s or 30s, eyebrows are being raised as to when that person would be married. Some families even go as far as arranging suitors for their children, not minding if they can get along with that individual or what they think.

This has caused so much desperation in young singles. Due to such pressures, some singles weep all-night and some others result to choosing just anybody to take the “shame” of singleness away. Some people also see themselves as failures and find it difficult to believe they can make it in life, otherwise. Such actions only help to confirm the fear of their family that they may never be married.

As a spinster or bachelor, you may have experienced some difficulty in settling down, everything may seem to have turned upside down, but your consolation should be in the Word of God and His promises concerning you. You must understand that depression and anxiety does not create your desire, but a faith-filled disposition would.

You can get God committed to giving you your speedy answers by committing your desires to Him in prayers and trusting Him to bring the best person your way. That family pressure can be turned to a testimony for you, but God is waiting for your voice in prayer and not your tears. No amount of worry would solve any problem, but a faith-filled prayer will change every situation for good. Today, that marital concern comes to an end in the name of Jesus Christ!

Remain Blessed!
