APCUK stands firm with Rt. Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi

No doubt, many Nigerians will have Rt. Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi in their list of modern day Nigerian heroes. Hon Amaechi, one of the instruments that led the fight against impunity and tumbled the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and victory of our great party in April 2015, fought for CHANGE with his whole life.

As the Director General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign, Rt. Hon Amaechi was directly in charge of the elections. He damned all consequence by fighting the previous government which had been ridden with corruption. His fight against a government that stated that "stealing is not corruption" led to his isolation from the party, however, we all know that if Hon Amaechi had remained in the PDP, we may not have enjoyed the resounding victory we gained at the poll.

It should be noted that Hon Amaechi who is being attacked by the current PDP governor of River state, was almost cheated by the PDP when his governorship mandate was initially ‘stolen’.

They did the same thing at the Governorship Forum, where he had received 19 nominations. Instead PDP opted for a candidate that had only received 16. Is 16 greater than 19? Of course it is not. But the PDP has a reputation for meddling with democracy. For 16 years while they governed Nigeria, our democracy weakened as they continued to rig themselves into power. If not for bold people like Hon. Amaechi who defied their order and stood with Nigerians seeking change.

The former First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Mrs Patience Jonathan while campaigning for the PDP called on members to stone anyone who advocates change. This did not deter Hon Amaechi as he continued to speak about the change we are now benefitting in Nigeria.

As the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Rotimi Amaechi sponsored the school right and the anti-kidnapping law and we all know that under his leadership as the Governor of Rivers State, the lives of the people of Rivers significantly improved.

If you are unaware of his achievement, here are some: He Employed over 13000 teachers in one day; Sponsored over 2000 Rivers people on foreign scholarship; built about 10 world class secondary schools with boarding facilities; upgraded the status of College of Education to I. Ajuru University of Education; gave free school uniforms to all primary school pupils in his State, provided free Education at Primary and Secondary School level.

There is a reason why we call him the Lion of the south-south. Hon Amaechi is a grounded politician who has taken several roles in his state and has risen to the very high rank which makes him suitable to be a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Indeed, he is a real hero of democracy; he put his life on the line for Nigerians when others would wish to keep theirs safe.

APC UK stands with President Buhari’s decision to appoint Hon Amaechi as one of his Ministers. As a Minister we can expect Hon Amaechi to defend the people of Nigeria by using his skills and experience to our advantage.
