Pastor Faith Oyedepo: Sunday October 18, 2015 Daily Devotional – Let’s talk about sex

Topic: Let’s talk about sex [Sunday 18 October, 2015]

“Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.”-Proverbs 22:15

Children are very vulnerable. This is why it is wisdom for you as a parent to teach them (yourself), as much as you can, before they mingle with the world. Some parents seem to be doing well in some areas of child training, but there is this vital aspect that most parents shy away from – sex education.

With all seriousness, it is important for you to teach your children about sex. The truth is: If you don’t give your children sex education from a godly perspective, someone else will and it could be disastrous. For instance, in the olden days, it appeared a taboo for parents to talk to their children about sex. Some people saw it as vulgar and unholy. The sad thing was that, some of these children ended up being misled, molested and corrupted.

These days, in a bid to remedy or polish the situation, some people have decided to use other methods to educate their children. They tend to mention the subject of sex, but they refuse to give them the right information they need. Some parents go as far as telling their daughters that if they come in contact with anyone of the opposite sex, they would become pregnant. This has made such children more confused than necessary.

It is your duty as a parent to plainly and simply tell your children exactly all they need to know about sex. Tell them what it means and when it’s right for them to indulge in it. Tell them the effect of any disobedience if they fall short of what is expected of them by God.

We cannot afford to sacrifice the joy and peace of our children’s future on the altar of tradition, culture and modernization or even negligence. Make it a point of duty to find out and understand properly all the changes that our children undergo, and from a godly perspective, teach them how to handle them. You will not fail in the name of Jesus Christ!

Remain Blessed!
