DCLM Daily Manna, Thursday October 22, 2015 by Pastor Kumuyi – Genuine Faith
Topic: Genuine Faith [Thursday October 22, 2015]
Text: John 4:43-54
Key Verse: “Jesus saith unto him, Go thy way; thy son liveth. And the man believed the word that Jesus had spoken unto him, and he went his way” (John 4:50).
Abraham Kuyper, said: “When principles that run against your deepest convictions begin to win the day, then battle is your calling, and peace has become sin. You must, at the price of dearest peace, lay your convictions bare before friend and enemy, with all the fire of your faith.” Though our text x-rays the unquestionable authority of Jesus over every situation, it significantly noted the genuine faith of an official of the king in Capernaum. When Jesus left Samaria, He went to Galilee, a region where He grew up, and performed His first miracle of turning water into wine at Cana.
He knew the mind of the people and told them, without mincing words, that a prophet must have respect, except in his own country. When the king’s official in Capernaum heard that Jesus had arrived Galilee from Judea and that He was in Cana, he made efforts to see Him. He didn’t consider the distance from Capernaum to Cana, a distance of about 32 kilometres (20 miles), as a barrier because he desperately wanted Jesus to heal his son who was at the point of death. Jesus did not go to Capernaum with the official. Instead, He told the man that his son would live. The man sincerely believed because he trusted Jesus completely.
Some people in our contemporary time have little regard for Christ. They make themselves more important than Him; they have wavering faith towards Him. Some even seek only miracles and not Christ. The official’s son was about 32 kilometres away from where Jesus was, yet He was able to cure him through the authority of His word. This shows that distance is not a barrier to receiving answers to prayers. So trust in Jesus; you will receive answers to your prayers.
Thought for the day: God answers prayers
