Pastor Faith Oyedepo: Monday October 26, 2015 Daily Devotional – Commit to its perfection

Topic: Commit to its perfection [Monday 26 October, 2015]

“…Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.”-Philippians 2:12

Statistics indicate that the decline of marriages and the family unit has been greater and more alarming in the past 25 years, than any other quarter-century in history. There are more cases of divorce, separation and single parenting than we ever had in the days of old. People are quick to leave their marriages at the slightest provocation and this, I believe, is due to a misconception about marriage.

When God instituted marriage, His intent was for it to be a lifetime commitment. However, humans have found so many alternatives to/ in marriage that they have relegated the value of this commitment. You must understand that success in marriage doesn’t just fall on people’s laps, you must work at it and that entails erasing every alternative you have to marriage.

Some people already feel self-sufficient. To them, marriage is just to fulfill all righteousness. They already have all they think they need to survive. They could always rely on their job or wealth, so whether their marriage works or not, it makes no difference. Some others rely on their family. To them, if the marriage fails, they could always return “home”. However, you must understand that the moment you get married there is no other “home” than the one you now are in.

If you can understand that there is no alternative to your marriage, you would make it the haven you desire. Also, if you bear in mind that marriage is not a “try your luck” affair, but a lifetime commitment, you would do all it takes to make it work. Marriage is like gold, and like most precious ornaments, you must invest to secure it and fashion it into a jewel of inestimable value. So, set aside your alternatives and commit to perfecting that which you already have.

Remain Blessed!
