The All Progressives Congress, APC, Rivers State Chapter, says it has observed a recent trend in which Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has resorted to employing the services of the National Working Committee of his party, the PDP to blackmail the APC at both the national and state levels and other agencies of the Federal Government, noting the purpose is to deceive unsuspecting Nigerians and the international community about the fraud that his government is.
The APC in a statement issued by its spokesman Mr Chris Finebone said, “Last week, the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Chief Olisa Metuh went on a shouting episode, alleging partisanship by the APC Federal Government and the Nigeria Police over the decision of the Police to proactively protect lives and properties following the developments surrounding the matter of Local Councils in Rivers State. On that occasion, it was glaring that Metuh was acting at the behest of Nyesom Wike who excels in the unholy act of blackmail. Events that followed have shown that the PDP was simply crying wolf”.
Continuing, the statement explained that on Wednesday, the NWC of the PDP held its meeting and came out to announce that the APC Federal Government was making attempts to use the Department of State Security [DSS] to compromise petitions before the various Rivers State election petition tribunals in favour of the APC.
“The APC is aware that the assertion by the PDP NWC made through Chief Metuh on the matter followed disclosures made by the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner for Rivers State, Dame Gesila Khan to the PDP through Nyesom Wike that the Acting D-G of the DSS quizzed her and attempted to coerce her into changing her hard stance against the APC.
“The APC would like to call on the Inspector-General of Police and the D-G [DSS] to swiftly arrest and question Dame Gesila Khan for misrepresenting her interaction with the DSS to her party, the PDP and her electoral partner, Nyesom Wike which has given rise to the ongoing campaign of calumny by the PDP against the Department of State Security, its acting Director-General and the Federal Government”.
