The agency said the ill-fated boat was travelling from Ojo to Irewe when the tragedy occurred at 8am.
NEMA South-West Public Relations Officer (PRO), Mr. Ibrahim Familoye, who confirmed the incident, said; “Yes, it is true. NEMA has just been alerted of a boat mishap that involved 14 school children who were being conveyed across Ojo to Irewe jetty. Six children are yet to be recovered. Search will continue tomorrow.”
As at Press time, rescuers were fed up as they were all returning home while families of missing children were wailing, begging that rescuers should still try their luck.
A smilar tragedy involving school children occurred in March last year when a boat capsized at 6th Avenue FESTAC town in Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area.
In the incident, 14 bodies including three siblings were recovered.[Sunnews]
