Pastor Faith Oyedepo: Saturday July 4, 2015 Daily Devotional – Sharpening the Sword

Topic: Sharpening the Sword [Saturday July 4, 2015]

“Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.”-Proverbs 27:17

People complain of going cold after marriage. “I don’t pray the way I used to, neither do I have time to study the Bible”, they would say. Someone once complained that she used to fast some specific days before she got married, but after she got married, things changed. You should know that it is not God’s intention for you. He does not want you to become lukewarm because you get married. In actual fact, your marriage is supposed to make you stronger in the things of God.Marriage is not meant to pull you down spiritually.

All through Scriptures, you discover that two heads always achieve more, than one. You should pray better when you are together, get results faster and have even greater understanding of Scriptures in marriage, than when you were alone.

However, the major reason why people experience dryness spiritually when they are married is because one party was not truly spiritually committed. He or she might be a Christian, but you have to seek to grow in Christ. The above Scripture says “iron sharpeneth iron.” So, if one party is “wood”, the iron will get blunt in a bid to sharpen the wood. Thus, reason for the Spiritual dryness people experience.

Your spirituality collectively and individually should be paramount in your mind. Decide to walk together spiritually, as you both crave personally to increase in your relationship with God. You cannot do it alone that is why you must get it right at the initial stage. This you do, by making spirituality your bedrock even before you say “I do”. Receive grace to be strengthened in your walk with God.

Remain Blessed!
