Delta elders praise Igbuya


Delta State elders, under the aegis of The Forum for Good Governance, on Sunday described the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Ovwigho Igbuya as an astute lawmaker and the most effective person in that post in the history of the state

They also praised Mister Speaker for protecting the rights of all Members on the House floor, advancing the plans of the people through the legislative process and acting with integrity.

A statement by the spokesperson of the TFFGG, Chief Ndudi Nkenchor after a meeting in Asaba applauded the first lawmaker elected three times from Sapele for exposing the lawmakers and their support staff to training programmes both locally and internationally.

“The training expected at equipping the lawmakers in the fundamentals and processes of lawmaking for effective performance is a good way of developing the legislative institution in the state ".the statement said.

Calling the Presiding Officer of the House a voice for reform, the elders commended him for making the legislative process more open and transparent.

“The priorities of the people are reflected in the priorities of lawmakers.

Mr. Speaker is enforcing and interpreting the rules of the House, deciding matters of order, delivering rulings, and maintaining order and decorum. He is also focused on removing government barriers to private-sector job creation and economic growth, cutting government spending, reforming the House, and rebuilding the bonds of trust between the people and their representatives.

Noting empowerment programmes for deserving beneficiaries of the constituencies and employment for the people, the statement praised the speaker for implementing the legislative agenda of the House, presiding over the House, choosing which Member to recognize during floor debate, ruling on points of order, maintaining decorum, deciding the outcome of voice votes, announcing the results of recorded votes and maintaining party unity and discipline.
