The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the names of the 11 presidential candidates and their running mates who will contest the 2015 general elections.

This is contained in a statement signed by Kayode Idowu, the Chief Press Secretary to INEC Chairman in Abuja.

A lawmaker representing Maru North Constituency in Zamfara State House of Assembly, Alhaji Salisu Yakubu, has defected from All Progressives Congress to the Peoples Democratic Party.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the lawmaker lost state assembly ticket to an opponent, Ibrahim Abu at the APC state assembly primary.

President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday said ‘everywhere will be hot from January 2.’

He added that it was normal for public office holders to be criticized while he still in office.

According to him, he would be commended after leaving office by the time his achievements were being compared with others.

Speaking while receiving a delegation of traditional rulers and leaders from Bayelsa State, led by Governor Seriake Dickson, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, Mr. Jonathan said:

There was apprehension yesterday in Nasarawa State over the rumoured death of Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura in a London hospital.

The rumour, which spread like wildfire across the state, started on Sunday night when Governor Al-Makura was allegedly flown abroad due to ill health.

A Federal High court sitting in Abuja yesterday stopped the Independent National Electoral Commission [INEC] from publishing names of nominees of the Peoples Democratic Party [PDP] for national and state Assemblies election from Ondo State.

Justice Ahmed Mohammed issued the preservative order after listening to contempt proceedings initiated against the electoral body by the Olu Agunloye-led executive and some aspirants to the House of Representatives.

You are most welcome to another inspirational edition of Family Forum. All through this month, I will be taking you through a topic which I titled: God Designed Your Home for Success.
It is God’s desire that you succeed in your marriage and family life as a Christian. Success in all areas of life is God’s will for you. But it does not come by chance, neither is it an accidental occurrence.

This week, I will be sharing with you, God’s blueprints for a successful home. The Word of God says: For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, said the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end (Jeremiah 29:11). God wants you to succeed. Whether you’re preparing for marriage and a family, already married with a family, or the single head of a household, there are certain principles you must understand, in order to achieve that success. They are His blueprints. Let us examine some of them:

Marriage was God’s Idea

I want you to know that God was the One who brought the idea of marriage. It is His desire to see your marriage succeed. For the first time in scripture, we notice God saying something in creation was not good (Genesis 2:18). This scripture clearly shows that marriage was God’s idea. At this time, Adam didn’t even realize he was alone. If marriage is God’s idea, then it must be good, honorable, and possess the ability to work well.

Dear Reader,

I welcome you to this month’s teaching. I want you to be rest assured that God is going to visit you this month. This month, I shall be discussing on Marriage as a Lifetime Covenant.

Today, I want to start by looking at the origin of marriage. In Genesis 2:18-25, we see God initiating the idea of male and female relationship, in which both will serve as succour to each other. The purpose of God in marriage is to create a help that is suitable, adaptable and complementary, to establish unity and for procreation.

What is Marriage?

Marriage is a union between one man and one woman. It is coming together of two people of opposite sex, with a view to building a God-centred home. Marriage is not the culture of any country of the world, rather it is heaven’s culture. Marriage is God’s idea, not man’s idea. The Word of God says: And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof. And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man (Genesis 2:21-22).

Dear Reader,

I want you to know that God has designed your marriage for fruitfulness. Fruitfulness should be natural to man, but when you are resisted by hell, you need an understanding of God’s provision for your fruitfulness in marriage to combat the enemy. Throughout this month, I shall be talking to you on what I titledYou are created to be Fruitful: You are Created to be Fruitful.

Today, I shall be examining fruitfulness as part of God’s plan for your marriage. With the same breath that God called forth light, and it came to be, He also made man to be fruitful. The Word of God says: And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth (Genesis 1:28). That was not an admonition, but a commandment. God did not say, “You may be fruitful”, but “Be fruitful!”

It is that time of the year again, when most people get to be more indulgent with alcohol. It is important that you consider more reasons to quit or, at the very least, check your alcohol consumption.

Ultimately, drinking too much can cause dehydration. When you become dehydrated, your skin might become baggy and loose, including the skin under your eyes. This can make dark circles appear more prominent. Baggy eyelids can cast shadows that increase the impression of dark circles. Chronic alcohol use can increase dark circles under your eyes. Skin thins in alcoholics, making blood vessels beneath the surface more visible.

Scientists Reveal How Ebola Started

According to a recent discovery by scientists, the most likely cause of the deadly outbreak of Ebola in West Africa was a young boy playing near a colony of virus-infected bats.

Mother charged for drowning her 6-year-old daughter

A mother who confessed to killing her 6-year-old daughter at the family’s Minnesota home on Tuesday told police she did it because she thought the girl had been molested.

Sony releases North Korea comedy despite threats

Sony, the Japanese-owned company, has released online The Interview, the film that has angered North Korea and prompted a cyberattack on the company.

The comedy was available for rent in the US from 18:00 GMT on several online platforms, a day before a limited release in hundreds of cinemas on Christmas Day.

Security operatives have arrested a girl in Kano State with explosives attached to her body.

The girl, Zahra'u Babban Gida, whose age has not been disclosed, said she was unconscious until Wednesday, when she was released by the dreaded Boko Haram men and strapped to an explosive vest to go and kill people in the city of Kano.

Babban Gida was arrested opposite Kantin-Kwari textile market, the scene of a major explosion two weeks ago, in which two female suicide bombers detonated explosives, killing many.

ISIS trying to recruit fighters in Nigeria – Nigeria Govt

Agents of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) are scouting Nigeria to recruit youths as fighters for the terrorist group, the federal government has warned.

According to the Coordinator of the National Information Centre and Director-General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mr. Mike Omeri, intelligence reports had shown that three South African nationals were among some of the fighters recruited by ISIS agents operating under the guise of humanitarian support groups for refugees and orphans in Nigeria.

Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka has described Former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s autobiography, ‘My Watch’, as a narrative by a career liar, who is always determined to crookedly project himself above his true standing among men.

Obasnjo had written about Soyinka in his book, where he called him a self serving critic. “For Wole, no one can be good, nor can anything be spot-on politically except that which emanates from him or is ordained by him.”

The Sierra Leone government on Wednesday declared a five-day lockdown in the country’s Northern Province to step up efforts to contain the Ebola epidemic.

“Within this period, no shops will be opened. No market will operate. No unauthorised vehicles or motorcycle taxis will ply the route in or outside towns and villages except those officially assigned to Ebola-related assignments,” Alie Kamara, resident minister for the Northern Region, told AFP.

APC to Nigerians: This is your last Christmas in bondage

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has assured Nigerians that this will be their last Christmas celebration under the bondage of insecurity, corruption, unemployment, widespread hopelessness and poor leadership.

In a Christmas message to Nigerians, contained in a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said hope is in the horizon for the millions of Nigerians who could not celebrate this year due to the prevailing gloomy atmosphere across the land.

President Goodluck Jonathan has called for special prayers against the demons battling against Nigeria’s progress. He made this call in his 2014 Christmas message to Nigerians.

“Peace and love for others, especially, were a constant refrain in the Messiah’s teachings and admonitions to mankind.

“Therefore, as we celebrate his birth, I urge all Nigerians to offer special prayers for a greater manifestation of divine peace in our country and the vanquishing of all demons of hatred, divisiveness and disunity in our midst,” he said.

Use Xmas to seek God's intervention - Awoniyi

Two cousins in court for stealing cow and using ambulance as getaway vehicle

Two cousins have appeared in the Mahwelereng Magistrate’s court in South Africa for allegedly stealing a cow and an ambulance they used as a getaway vehicle, Limpopo police said on Monday.

Blade Olifant, 26, and Kgothatso Olifant, 27, allegedly stole a cow and loaded it in the back of an ambulance in Mahwelereng, said Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi.

Kogi govt assures implementation of regular payment of salaries

Kogi State Government says it will not do anything that will jeopardize the existing industrial harmony in the State.

Kogi State Head of Service, Dr Moses Atakpa, in a statement assured that it will continue to adhere to the implementation of regular payment of salaries that will ensure improve quality of lives for its workers.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Kogi chapter, has advised the state government against planned retrenchment of over 6,000 workers from the state civil service.

The advice is contained in a communique signed by the state Chairman of the NLC, Mr James Odaudu, and Secretary of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Mr J.O. Kolawole, at the end of a meeting of the organised labour in Lokoja on Sunday.

SURE-P engages 100,000 graduates

The Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme has said about 100,000 graduates across the country are currently engaged in its Graduate Internship Scheme.

The agency gave this figure at a training session for new inductees into the programme in Akure.

The training comprised modules on micro-financing, communication skills, team work management, performance measurement, entrepreneurship, rule of work, company structure and Information and Communication Technology.

At the continued coroner’s inquest into the tragic building collapse at The Synagogue, Church Of All Nations (SCOAN) on September 12th 2014, an explosives expert has testified that a ‘sound weapon’ was behind the collapse of the church structure.
