CBN extends BVN registration to October 31

The CBN said on Tuesday that the Bank Verification Exercise (BVN) has been extended to October 31, 2015,... according to NAN.

The Central Bank had earlier fixed Tuesday, June 30, as deadline for the exercise, warning that defaulters may not be able to access their accounts from July 1.

Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe has challenged US President Barack Obama by asking his hand in marriage.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Monday, June 29, 2015 arraigned Yau Mohammed Gital, Shuaibu Yakubu, Jibiril M. Tahir and Jibmir Ventures Nigeria Limited before Justice Abubakar Talba of the FCT High Court Gudu, Abuja, on a 10-count charge bordering on obtaining money under false pretence, conspiracy and forgery to the tune of N192,000,000 (one hundred and ninety-two million naira).

Gital, a former Chief of Staff to the FCT minister and member of the Land Allocation Committee, Federal Capital Territory Administration, allegedly conspired with Shuaibu Yakubu, a former special assistant to the Chief of Staff, Jibril M. Tahir, the Managing Director, Jibmir Ventures Nigeria Limited, to obtain money from various unsuspecting persons under the false pretence that the money was for processing and facilitation of land allocation by the Federal Capital Development Authority.

Kogi Govt assures of judicious utilization of basic Education grant

Kogi State Government has assured of the judicious utilization of the 2012 Universal Basic Education Commission grant it received recently.

Kogi State Governor, Capt Idris Wada gave the assurance when he received a delegation from the National Headquarters of UBEC, led by Dr Yakubu Gambo, Deputy Executive Secretary School Services, who are in the State to assesst he management style of the Kogi State SUBEB.

Supreme Court appoint Osuji as Interim Head Coach

One of Nigeria National League, NNL campaigners Supreme Court FC of Abuja on Tuesday announced the appointment of Coach Joachim Osuji as interim Head Coach of the team saddled with the responsibility of steering the club to gain promotion by the end of current season.

According to him, without BVN one will still have access to his cash, he said.

Freetown – One of the three districts of Sierra Leone where new cases of Ebola have been recorded will jail those who break a new emergency by-law designed to prevent the spread of the disease, an official said Sunday.

The District Ebola Response Centre Coordinator, Raymond Kabia said “a high-level stakeholders meeting” on Friday decided that “violators of the by-laws would no longer be fined but will go to jail for six months instead”.

Sierra Leone announces new curfew to halt Ebola

Sierra Leone’s President Ernest Bai Koroma said Friday he was imposing a three-week daytime curfew in the last Ebola-hit areas in a bid to curb a resurgence of the deadly virus.

Koroma announced on state television he was imposing “with immediate effect a 6:00 am to 6:00 pm chiefdom-level curfew” in parts of the northwestern districts of Kambia and Port Loko, the only areas still reporting new infections.

Various reactions have come in the wake of America formally legalising gay marriage across the entirety of its borders but one of the most unusual has sprung from a popular Nigerian cleric.

After the historic announcement, T.B. Joshua tweeted a YouTube video showing a young man allegedly receiving ‘deliverance’ from a ‘homosexual demon’.

Kogi assures Kupa, Bagana communities of lasting peace

Kogi State Government has assured that it is committed to bringing lasting peace to troubled communities of Kupa and Bagana in Kogi State.

Yomi Awoniyi, Kogi State Deputy Governor and Chairman State Emergency Management Agency, gave the assurance when he received a report from the officials of National Emergency Management Agency, who where on assessment tour of Kupa and Bagana to assess the extent of damages and destruction done to lives and properties that affected the two communities, during recent communal clashes months ago.

The Lagos State government has issued a 21-day ultimatum to motorcyclists and tricycle operators in the state to vacate restricted roads in the state.

The government made this known during a meeting with the unions of the two transport operators in at the Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja.

Rivers APC warns Wike against planned crackdown on non-indigenes

….Says action may boomerang on Rivers indigenes living elsewhere

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has strongly warned the controversial Governor of the State, Chief Nyesom Wike, to abandon his plan to viciously crack down on non-indigenes in the State for their loyalty to the immediate past Governor of the State, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, and for voting for President Muhammadu Buhari in the March 28 elections.

U.S. President Barack Obama will host Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari at the White House on July 20 to discuss fighting the Boko Haram militant group, among other issues, the White House said on Thursday.

“The visit will underscore the United States’… commitment to strengthening and expanding our partnership with Nigeria’s new government,” the White House said in a statement.

Topic: I Forgive Myself

I did something wrong by mistake some time ago and I didn’t even realise it. The following day, while my husband and I were on our way to work, he noticed my error and told me. I was in shock and was so upset with myself that it changed my once happy and excited mood. He tried to liven up the environment and I would just giggle and go back to being upset with myself. I kept asking myself how I could do such a thing, even though it was not intentional. My husband looked at me and said “you must learn to self-forgive”. Wow! That set me free instantly.

According to Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary (New 8th Edition), corruption is the act or effect of making somebody change from moral to immoral standards of behaviour. It is a dishonest or illegal behaviour, especially of people in authority. Corruption has affected every aspect of Nigeria. It is visible in politics, business, profession, and even in the church. Many people have concluded that corruption have come to stay with us while others believe that the war against corruption can be won in Nigeria. What is your view?

Senators of the All Progressives Congress (APC), on Wednesday, defied the leadership of the party, by going ahead to name potential candidates for Senate leadership positions.

The APC had, in a letter written by its national chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, addressed to Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, asked the lawmakers to name Senator Ahmad Lawan as Senate leader, George Akume as his deputy, Sola Adeyeye as chief whip and Abu Ibrahim as deputy whip.

Topic: Be Friends

Friendship is so important especially in marriage. It is the core of a strong marriage. Don’t treat your spouse as just your husband or wife. Be friends; be best friends – it tightens your bond. It is the key to a healthy and fulfilling relationship.

Where couples are not friends, where they don’t laugh with each other, where there is no freedom to be vulnerable, where there is no acceptance, they are most miserable.

Apple is developing an iPhone with a flexible curved screen that could be introduced in 2018, it has been claimed.

The handset would use a similar screen to the Apple Watch, based on a technology called OLED.

On Monday, June 22, Mr. Nyesom Wike, briefed the media and made numerous allegations. These allegations are the same ones that Mr. Wike set up a commission of inquiry to investigate. However in keeping with Rt. Hon Chibuike Amaechi’s commitment to good governance and to transparent and accountable stewardship to Rivers people, we will reiterate the facts.

Recently, the Governor of Rivers State, Barr. Nyesom Wike set up a panel to probe some activities carried out by the immediate past government of Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.

The APC has listened to the different voices for and against the probe. Among the different shades of opinion espoused by Rivers people, one stands out: the probe is targeted at Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, his supporters and associates.

The National Industrial Court of Nigeria presided over by Hon. Justice J.T. Agbadu-Fishim, holden at Yenagoa, Bayelsa State has granted an Order of Interim Injunction against the Governor of Rivers State, the Rivers State House of Assembly and the Attorney-General of Rivers State and their agents from dissolving, suspending, sacking terminating or in any manner whatsoever interfering with the tenure of office of the 23 Local Government Councils of Rivers State.

The Order, in Suit No: NICN/YEN/26/2015, which was granted on Monday, 22nd June, 2015 followed a motion ex-parte and affidavit of extreme urgency filed by the 23 Local Government Council Chairmen on behalf of themselves and the 23 Local Government Councils of Rivers State.
