Nigerians hail Jonathan for conceding defeat to Buhari

In Enugu, the residents commended the president for his display of sportsmanship following the victory of Gen. Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Some of the people, who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday said Jonathan had exhibited great statesmanship.

Mujahid Asari-Dokubo, an ex-militant who previously threatened to unleash violence on the country if President Goodluck Jonathan lost the presidential election, has promised to support any government in power.

A big supporter of Jonathan, Asari-Dokubo had taken to the campaign trail to ensure the President wins reelection.

Edo State Government has declared a work-free day in the state on Wednesday to celebrate the historic victory of General Muhammadu Buhari, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress.

In a statement issued in Lagos on Sunday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said it has the authentic results from every polling unit where voting took place on Saturday, and will not accept anything contrary to those signed results.

Boko Haram at it again, scares away many voters

Boko Haram extremists killed 41 people, including a legislator, and scared hundreds of people from polling stations but millions voted across Nigeria Saturday in the most closely contested presidential race in the nation’s history.

Scores of APC Members Shot Dead In Rivers, 100 Members Arrested

Today’s presidential and National Assembly elections have turned out to be a big nightmare for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, with the members being killed, attacked and disenfranchised in various parts of the State.

“Armed militias working for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have intensified their killing of APC members. Scores have already been killed and several others marked for elimination. This morning in Kpite Town, Tai Ward 2 and other areas of the State, five people were shot dead by PDP’s armed militia, and that was before accreditation commenced,” Rivers APC Chairman, Dr. Davies Ibiamu Ikanya, said in a statement in Port Harcourt. For all their hype, the INEC smart card readers never lived up to their billing. The machines which were supposed to serve the purpose of accrediting voters and limiting time honored malpractice concerns, were malfunctioning as early as 8am, Saturday when President Jonathan waltzed into Otuoke in Bayelsa State to get himself and his wife accredited.

Awoniyi, gives INEC pass mark

The Kogi State Deputy Governor, Yomi Awoniyi, has given INEC a pass mark in the conduct of today's election even as he also commended the electorates in Mopamuro LGA of Kogi State, for their peaceful conduct at today's election.

Awoniyi gave the commendation after casting his vote in his polling unit in Mopamuro LGA, said with the peaceful process of today's election, the country has gotten it right in its electoral process despite the little noticed challenges.

Rivers REC Boss Hands Over Original Copies of Result Sheet to Chief Nyesome Wike

Reports reaching us indicates that the Rivers REC Mrs. Gesila Khan have few hours ago handed over the original copies of the INEC result for tomorrow's election to Chief Nyesome Wike the PDP guber candidate at an undisclosed location in Port Harcout.

According to the report, Mrs Khan to avoid the eyes of the Security Organs catching up with her have done colored photocopies out of the original result sheets and distributed them to the Electoral Officers (EO) for use. The idea is to give the coloured photocopies to the EOs while the original result sheets now with chief wike will be used to write and allocate results to the parties as Chief Wike deems fit.

The birth of a new born baby would normally elicit joy and excitement in people. It is more so when the mother has been longing for it without results for years. But, the reverse was the case in a maternity centre (name withheld) situated at Ifosan area of Ilesa, in Osun State where a woman recently gave birth to a baby with two horns on its head.

A tip had given Saturday Tribune photos of the strange baby, the arrival of which caused fear and trepidation among the nurses and the proprietress of the maternity centre. The tip also described the hospital and the geography of its area of operation.

The attempt to kill Amaechi was made by some unidentified gun-wielding youths who had first blocked the exit route of the governor’s convoy. As the suspected killers advanced to where Amaechi was addressing supporters of All Progressives Congress, APC, where he had gone for the final leg of the part’s door-to-door campaign in Obio/Akpor, the governor’s security details returned fire. Amaechi was shielded by his security personnel to safety. He, however, was not hurt.

I got the real meaning of the saying that time waits for no man, as I thought on some information I had received. Apparently, it was yet another birthday of this acquaintance of mine, and I was reminded, I sat, reminiscing on the days we now had known each other; over 20 years. It seemed to me like the informant had to be wrong- it was already 20 years? But she was right, it was that birthday. Then I realised, of a truth, time flies.

Many of us try, but often fail, to get eight hours’ sleep each night. This is widely assumed to be the ideal amount – but some experts now say it’s too much, and may actually be unhealthy.

We all know that getting too little sleep is bad. You feel tired, you may be irritable, and it can contribute to obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes, and heart disease, doctors say. But too much sleep? You don’t often hear people complaining about it.

More than 200 girls who were abducted by Boko Haram from government secondary school, Chibok, Borno State, in April 2014 are in Gwoza, The Cable, an online medium, on Wednesday quoted Mbutu Papka, a woman who was recently freed after eight months in the sect’s captivity, to have said.

Papka, who made the revelation to the international centre for investigative reporting, said she was transferred from a poor condition in Mdita to a fairly tolerable facility in Gwoza where the abducted girls were being held.

Nigeria Govt closes land and sea borders for polls

The Federal Government on Wednesday directed that all land and sea borders with neighbouring countries be closed from midnight of Thursday (today) to the midnight of Saturday to allow for a hitch-free poll.

The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, David Parradang, who announced this in a statement in Abuja, said immigration personnel had been deployed in land borders to ensure that no illegal migrants entered the country during the election.

PDP Plots to Write Unit Results at Collation Centres in Rivers State

The Rivers State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress [APC] claims credible information in its possession indicates that the PDP, in collusion with the Independent Electoral Commission [INEC], have plotted to ignore the genuine results of polls of most units in Rivers State and replacing same with written results by them during the forthcoming general elections.

Boko Haram kidnaps 400 women and children in Damask

Boko Haram militants have kidnapped more than 400 women and children from the northern Nigerian town of Damasak that was freed this month by troops from Niger and Chad, Reuters quoted residents as saying on Tuesday.

There was no immediate official confirmation of the figure, but the Islamist group has previously carried out mass kidnappings. Boko Haram in April 2014 adopted over 200 schoolgirls in Chibok.

Racist Restaurant: Chinese restaurant in Kenya bars black people after 5pm [Photos]

A Chinese restaurant in the Kenyan capital does not admit Africans after 5pm, insisting they pose a security threat to its clients. The staff cites criminal situations and the activities of terrorist group Al Shabaab.

The restaurant was shut down today, for failing to have appropriate licences.

Jonathan Heads to Election on Bribery Hope

Bribery has been a recurring decimal in Nigerian elections. But the case of the 2015 electoral season is well ripe for the Guinness Book of Records.

The problem took a new dimension when President Goodluck Jonathan shocked the world by plainly rejecting a plan by Independent National Election Commission (INEC) to monitor campaign funds in the 2015 general elections. In Jonathan’s words, regulation can only be realistic, “if you’re getting funds from government, then you must set restrictions; but if you’re generating your own funds, then you’ve no restrictions.” The president followed by raising over N21 billion at one sitting, most of which interestingly came from state governors, federal government agencies and contractors. This brazen impunity was not only in utter violation of the electoral law which pegs the presidential campaign expenditure at no more than N1 billion, but the event took place when many states could not even pay their staff salaries. This is not good.

Kogi govt to investigate accident involving a bus conveying 54 students and 4 teachers of Faith Academy Secondary School

The Kogi State Government has set up a Committee to investigate the reasons that led to the accident involving a bus conveying fifty-four students and four teachers of Faith Academy Secondary School, Zango-Daji, and a Dangote Trailer on Sunday, which led to the death of one of the students, and several others severely injured.

Kogi State Deputy Governor, Yomi Awoniyi, stated this when he paid a scheduled visit to the Faith Academy, Zango-Daji as well as to those who are injured and are still receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre and Specialist Hospital, Lokoja.

Rivers PDP Planning to Break Into INEC Warehouse to Steal Card Readers, APC Alleges

It has been alleged that the Rivers State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is planning to break into the warehouse of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the state to steal the card reading machines to be used for the March 28 and April 11 general elections.

The allegation was contained in a statement issued Tuesday in Port Harcourt by Dr Ibiamu Davies Ikanya the Chairman of the Rivers State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

As preparations intensify for general elections in Nigeria, starting Saturday, the United States President, Barack Obama, on Monday sent a special message to Nigerians, urging a credible and peaceful polls.

In recent times, it has been found that purity has been mistaken for virginity. It seems to be taught that once sex has not taken place, that person is “pure”. We forget though that our thoughts and words also determine our purity. Involvement in certain actions which don’t necessarily go “all the way” but cross certain boundaries (as understood individually, knowing that our body is where Christ resides), also defile the body.

Management of Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, has asked students and staff of the institution to vacate the campus till further notice.

In a statement signed by the Director of Information, Press and Public Relation, Mrs. Ronke Osho, titled: ‘LASU Declares Election Recess’, students and staff were advised to vacate the campus immediately with effect from Monday 23, 2015.
