Today’s Scripture: “Fear not [there is nothing to fear], for I am with you...I will help you; yes, I will hold you up and retain you with My [victorious] right hand...” - (Isaiah 41:10, AMPC)

Topic: He Holds You in His Hand [September 30, 2016]

We all face situations in life that feel out of control. During times like these, it’s easy to get discouraged and allow fear to creep in; but instead, why don’t you focus on the fact that God is holding you in the palm of His hand! There is nothing too difficult for Him; nothing’s impossible; nothing is beyond His ability. When God holds you in His hand, you are safe; you are cared for. In His hand, there is victory. In His hand, there is strength. In His hand, there is provision. In His hand is everything you need.

Hope still for Nigeria at 56

Written by the Editorial Board of The Guardian Newspaper

The Independence Day of a country, as the qualifier suggests, is a triumphant expression of liberation. As always, it is a day of soulful national reflection and commemoration of the gallant attempts to lead the people away from the stranglehold of oppression and subjugation and to orientate them towards the best possible attainment of their destiny. However, as Nigeria marks 56 years of Independence tomorrow, any celebration, pomp and merry-making on Independence Day may be hollow, if proper stock-taking of the people’s national life is glossed over.

Baby eagles spend the first three months of their lives in the comfortable nest their parents have prepared. But the eaglets get a big surprise when they are about twelve weeks old. Their mother suddenly begins to throw all of their toys out of the nest.

Winning Wisdom: The Mortified And Regenerator

Topic: The Mortified And Regenerator [30/9/2016]

Text: Roman 8:11-13

To mortify is to kill, while regeneration expresses the fact that a once dead life is being made alive again, but with a new gene. Now, the Holy Spirit activates the grace for both works in our lives as believers, killing the deeds of the flesh and at the same time regenerating our flesh to do the will of The Father. Now, isn't that wonderful? It's like destroying an old house filled with trash and building in its place a wonderful architectural piece with amazing fittings and great interior decoration.

It is a fact that as long as we remain in our bodies, our absolute obedience to God is very much under threat. But then, it is very true that by absolutely submitting to the Holy Spirit, our very same body can be made to cooperate with our spirit (Romans 8:11). It is a gradual but assuring process though; the mortifying and regenerating. There is a need for consistent communication in fellowship with the Spirit through the Word and in prayers (Philippians 2:1) if we must allow God to work in us and through us (:13) to produce His righteousness.

Not long ago I visited the dean of a great American university. We looked out the window of his office and watched hundreds of students walking to their classes. I asked the dean, “What is the greatest problem at this university?” He thought a moment and answered, “Emptiness.” So many people today are bored, lonely, searching for something. Key Verse: "At the beginning of thy supplications the com- mandment came forth, and I am come to shew thee; for thou art greatly beloved: therefore under- stand the matter, and consider the vision" (Daniel 9:23).

In many contemporary Christian assemblies, there is an over- emphasis on the place of prayer in true worship experience. Good as that trend may appear, the worrisome aspect of this modern practice of praying is the focus and content of such prayers. The Church today seems to have lost the power of purposeful supplication that will bring national revival, restoration and righteousness. Much time is spent praying against enemies, seeking personal wealth or deliverance. In our passage, Daniel is shown as an inspiring example that believers should emulate.

Buhari’s New Change Ought to Begin with His Igbo Problem

For full disclosure, I am an Igbo man. I am also one of the pundits currently being lampooned for cheering President Muhammadu Buhari to democratic power. Yet, knowing what I know now, I will lend that support all over again—and even more. Unless we have begun to view the history from a tainted lens, the thought of the very alternative, which was to bring back Goodluck Jonathan, remains a portent of much bigger crisis. More relatively, I strongly endorse Buhari’s latest mantra: “Change begins with me.”  And that is exactly what this piece is set to accomplish.

In Mark chapter five, there was a woman who had been sick for twelve years. The doctors gave her no hope. But, she heard that Jesus was passing through her town. Something deep down on the inside was saying, “This is your season. This is your time to get well.” In the natural, when she saw all the people around Jesus, she might have thought, “I’ll never get to Him. It’s so crowded and I’m weak.” She could have missed her season. But instead of dwelling on those negative thoughts, instead of looking at her situation, she started reminding herself, “If I can just get to Jesus, I will be whole.” She made the choice to turn her thoughts in the right direction and was empowered to take a leap of faith. She pressed through the crowd until she got just close enough to touch the edge of Jesus’ robe. Instantly, she was made whole.

Just like He is the One Who made The Word to become the Son of God (Luke 1:35), so also He is the One Who made us to be sons of God (John 3:5-6). And this process is completed with Him indwelling in us, which gives us the identity to be part of Gods family. Although, the actual return of the looted assets may still take some more time, given that it is dependent on the fulfillment of necessary legal processes, that a MoU has eventually been signed by both countries, keeps hope alive.

Bible made mention of many labours, but, we shall consider five kinds. Because this is the month of delivery, you shall deliver in Jesus Name. There are other things you can't control, such as what other people say or the flat tire you got last night. The way you respond to things you can't control helps determine your stress level and your quality of life and health. I have two suggestions about dealing with things you can't control. First, if you can't control them, don't take responsibility for them. And second, I like to say, "Do your best, pray, and let God do the rest!"

I want us to see how to get the best of times in our family life. The Bible says: The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; but a wounded spirit who can bear? (Proverbs 18:14). It is joy on the inside that brings out the best in a man. Happiness in your home will bring out the best in your wife, husband and children alike. A sorrowful heart is dangerous because nothing good comes the way of the dejected. God’s Word says: A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones (Proverbs 17:22).

Colossians 2:15 confirms this when it says: "and having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it."
