The Defence Headquarters on Tuesday said that the military was not targeting the militants in the ongoing operation ‘Crocodile Smile’ in the Niger Delta.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested Mr. Austin Umahi, the brother of the Governor of Ebonyi State, Dave Umahi, for his alleged role in the N23bn ($115m) allegedly disbursed by a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke.

The EFCC also arrested two others – Chinyere Egwuche and Mabel Dikibo –who were associates of Austin.

UK set to return stolen assets, signs MoU with Nigeria to avoid re-loot

Nigeria has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the British Government on the modalities for the return of Nigerian stolen assets and to ensure that returned assets are not at risk of being misappropriated again.

The Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, signed on behalf of the Federal Government in Abuja on Tuesday.

Mr. Femi Adesina, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity claimed President Muhammadu Buhari was already addressing the hunger in the land as advised by Okogie.

A Nigerian, Fathia Kareem, has set a record at the School of Medical Sciences of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Ghana, breaking its academic history.

For her feat, she received 12 out of 15 awards presented during the oath-swearing and induction ceremony for fresh doctors of the institution last Saturday.

Nigeria’s under-23 Olympic football team made international headlines few days ago for the wrong reasons after stories emerged of how the team was ‘stranded’ in Atlanta and had to be ‘rescued’ by Delta Airlines. Little did many know that the real hero was Yemi Idowu, a Nigerian businessman, sports philanthropist and enthusiast, who spent $ 300,000 from his personal pockets to provide an aircraft to fly the Dream Team from Atlanta long before Delta Airlines provided an alternate flight plan.

More military equipment have been moved to the Niger Delta, where the army says it is flushing out criminals.

The weapons include: Main Battle Tank, two Mine-Resistant, Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles and three Scorpion Tanks from the Headquarters of Nigerian Armour Corps.

The Niger Delta Avengers whose attacks have caused a huge dip in Nigeria’s oil exports, forcing the economy into a big crisis, said last night that they were done with the hostilities.

The Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) broke the news in a letter posted on its website by its spokesman, Mudoch Agbinibo, and addressed to President Muhammadu Buhari. It also spoke of the need for regular dialogue to take place for the Nigerian union to survive.

Federal Government retained revenue for the second quarter of this year stood at N677.88 billion, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Economic Report for the second quarter released yesterday said.

According to the report, the figure is above the receipts in the preceding quarter by 34.2 per cent, but lower than the quarterly budget estimate by 33 per cent.

A major tragedy was averted yesterday in Lagos, when a man jumped into the river on the Mile Two Bridge in Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area.

The unidentified man, according to eyewitnesses, stood on the bridge for some minutes, loudly expressed bitterness over his sufferings and how things had gone bad for him and his helplessness.

The Nigeria Police has dissociated President Muhammadu Buhari from the case involving 40-year old trader, Joe Chinakwe, who named his pet dog ‘Buhari.’

Chinakwe, who has since been granted bail, was recently arrested and arraigned in court for allegedly naming his dog “Buhari.”

As President Muhammadu crafts a bill that would allow the National Assembly grant him emergency powers to rescue Nigeria’s economy from recession, no one can miss his sense of urgency, even desperation, to make life more abundant for Nigerians. An executive bill titled: “Emergency Economic Stabilisation Bill 2016” is reportedly being prepared for presentation to the National Assembly in the next few days. The powers being sought are claimed to be needed to push the government’s planned stimulus for the economy. The objectives include shoring up the value of the naira, creation of more jobs, boosting of foreign reserves, reviving the manufacturing sector and improving power.

The first Love Lagos Town Hall meeting in London has been deemed a success.

The event which took place on August 27 , at the Woburn House Conference Center in Tavistock Square, to promote tourism in the former Capital of Nigeria runs till August 29.

Meditate on God's Word and His will for you. Then wrong thoughts will find no place of entry.

Prophets do not have an easy task. If they are going to be true to their calling, then they do not have any control over what they proclaim to the people. They must only declare what they have heard from the Lord, whether it is pleasant or unpleasant, to a foe or to a friend.

In your words lies your world, whether to manifest it through positive declaration or truncate it through negative declaration depends solely on you. The power to create your desired future is in your belief and declaration system. You can't go further than what you believe in your heart and what you declare with your mouth. This is why the Bible in Pro 23:7 says, it's your thought life that determines what you become in life. In the earthly ministry of Jesus, it was according to your faith you receive. Mk 10:51-52. And God said in Numbers 14:28, Say unto them, As truly as I live, saith the LORD, as ye have spoken in mine ears, so will I do to you.

Femi Falana, one of Nigeria's foremost rights lawyer has spoken against the prosecution of Joachim Chinakwe, a Nigerian who named his dog “Buhari”.

According to reports, Falana said that Chinakwe's ordeal had no place in the Nigerian statute, adding that labelling his dog with his desired name was in exercise of his fundamental rights to free speech which should not be curtailed by the Nigerian state.

Two choice shopping malls allegedly acquired by a serving Resident Electoral Commissioner with her share of a bribe dished out by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of last year’s general elections, have been seized by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

On ASUU’s unpaid salaries

The recent outburst by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) over unpaid salaries of its members was neither surprising nor unexpected from the university teachers who have borne more than a fair share of disappointment from successive governments.

While ASUU has the legitimate right to demand the payment of the salaries of its members, however, it ought to be more circumspect and, being an umbrella body of a critical member of the elite class, should demonstrate a better appreciation of the current economic state of affairs in the country.

In the United States, there is an over-the-counter medication advertised as the medicine to take at the first indication of a cold, to keep it from getting worse and becoming full-blown. I take a lot of vitamin C if I have a scratchy throat or a runny nose because it often keeps me from getting worse. Catching something before it goes too far is wisdom.

It doesn’t matter what that baby looks like; it doesn’t matter if their head is still coned, if their nose is still squashed, if they cry or make a mess, that baby is the apple of its parent’s eyes. They see that child as the most beautiful, perfect creation. They are just as proud and excited as they can be.

If only we sometimes knew what is happening in the camp of the enemies concerning us, we will be less agitated and troubled. We will not be disturbed over what we may consider as their threat on our lives and God's plans and purposes for us.
