Kemi Oyedepo: Do What It Takes

If you feel as though you have made some fundamental mistakes that may have negatively impacted your marriage and family life, please know that the One who created marriage is still alive and at work in many homes across the globe today. Don’t give up hope; the breakdown can be repaired, the love can be restored. Rejoice in the fact that it is not man that created marriage, if not we would all be in big trouble. But God who upholds all things by the Word of His power (Hebrews 1:3) is the one who can uphold that marriage. That means that your own marital case is not over.

Close your ears to the negative experiences of others and the negative counsel of others. Go after His prescription from His Word and fully apply them; you will see amazing changes. Don’t condemn yourself or blame yourself because that will get you nowhere. As long as you accept responsibility, God is willing and ready to ensure that home is put back together again.

As a wife, receive grace to submit (Ephesians 5:22). As a husband, receive grace to love (Ephesians 5:25). Both of you receive grace to submit to each other out of reverence for Christ (Ephesians 5:21). If your husband is not behaving as he should, he can be won over by your conduct (1 Peter 3:1). If your wife is not behaving as she should, treat her well and your prayers you offer up to God will be answered (1 Peter 3:7). Use wisdom, use knowledge, use understanding (Proverbs 24:3). If your desire is the restoration of your home, just as it is God’s desire, you have to be willing to do what it takes without blaming the other person. As Apostle Paul told Timothy, “meditate on all you receive and give yourself wholly to them, then your profiting will appear unto all” (1 Timothy 4:15). Even if things are going well, keep working at it.

The level of rest in a home has no substitute but it is expensive. Be willing to pay the price; be willing to do whatever it takes. A crisis-free family life doesn’t come cheap. God has given each one what it takes; use it to your advantage!
