Topic: His Kingdom [Friday December 25, 2015]

Text: Romans 14:10-22

Key Verse: “Hast thou faith? have it to thyself before God. Happy is he that condemneth not himself in that thing which he alloweth” (Romans 14:22).

Martin Luther King Jr. once said ‘Never, never be afraid to do what is right, especially if the well- being of a person or animal is at stake; society’s punishments are small compared to the wounds we inflict on our soul when we look the other way’.

The Christian church, while uncompromising in its stand against conducts opposed to scriptural standards, should not make rules and regulations that are not in tandem with the force of God’s laws and commandments. This is because such rules and regulations could possibly have been formulated on the basis of mere morals, personal dislikes or tribal and cultural sentiment. Our text deals with issues that border on the believer’s understanding of true Christ-likeness, holiness, fruitfulness, doctrine and morals. This involves a sincere evaluation, correction and rebuke of one another in love and humility, when and where necessary. Believers should refrain from judging one another.

Christ our Lord is the One who has the right to judge. We must avoid anything that constitutes stumbling-block to fellow believers especially the weak. Whether we are strong or weak, we must realize that true liberty does not lie in the exercise of that liberty if it will disrupt the peace of the body of Christ, knowing that the highest good is not attained in the use of liberty but in its use to edify the church.

Thought for the day: Don’t use your liberty as a cloke of maliciousness.
