Kogi State Govt. condemn the burning of INEC office.

Kogi State Governor, Capt Idris Wada has condemned in strong terms the recent burning of the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Dekina.

In a statement issued by the Deputy Governor, Yomi Awoniyi, the governor described the action as barbaric, uncivilized, callous and uncalled for.

He said the action is against the administration's developmental aspirations, pointing out that it cost money to erect public institutions and therefore, any destruction done, amounts to a drain on the resources of the country.

He assured that everything would be done to arrest those behind the arson and bring them to justice.
While calling for calm, the governor empathized with INEC and assured the organization of protection to discharge their duties in the state.

The statement said the governor has convened an emergency security council meeting in order to coordinate the investigation which will lead to unraveling the immediate and remote causes of the incident with a view to preventing a reoccurance and fishing out the perpetrators.

Preliminary investigation reveals that some persons dressed in police uniform visited the INEC office Dekina in the early hours of today, demanding for all materials relating to the supplementary election.
The statement said the INEC officials at the Dekina office found their request unusual and declined. The arsonists proceeded to setting the office ablaze.

All efforts to put off the fire which raged for hours by firemen was thwarted by the arsonists who kept vigil as the prevented access to the premises.
