Text: Romans 8:14-17
The Holy Spirit does so many things in and through us. One of the things He does in us is to affirm our sonship. The birth process that made us sons and daughters of God was instigated by the Holy Spirit. Just like He is the One Who made The Word to become the Son of God (Luke 1:35), so also He is the One Who made us to be sons of God (John 3:5-6). And this process is completed with Him indwelling in us, which gives us the identity to be part of Gods family. Romans 8:9 says: "...now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his."
It is because of the Holy Spirit, Who is in us that we can call ourselves sons of God. He is the One Who establishes that fact in our spirit, that something has changed; that we have been brought out of darkness and have been translated into the kingdom of light. Scriptures say," He bears witness with our Spirit ". A witness confirms an event and establishes it as true or false. This is what the Holy Ghost does. He confirms to and with our Spirit, that indeed, we have received the life of God. Roman 8:16 (TLB) confirms this when it says: "for his Holy Spirit speaks to us deep in our hearts and tells us that we really are God’s children."
So with the Holy Ghost affirming our sonship, we can now call God our Father and have a wonderful Father-son relationship with Him. And then because we are now sons of God, we are also heirs, and joint-heirs with Jesus to all that our Father has; even to His throne, for "to him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne" (Revelation 3:21).
Keep winning daily.
Prayer:
Dear Holy Spirit, thank You for affirming my sonship. With You in my life, I am certain of who I am in Christ. I am a son of God, and joint-heir with Christ to all that is of God. I enjoy and live this life to the fullest, in Jesus' Name. Amen.
