Pastor Faith Oyedepo: Wednesday December 2, 2015 Daily Devotional – Hold with care

Topic: Hold with care [Wednesday 2 December, 2015]

“For we commend not ourselves again unto you, but give you occasion to glory on our behalf, that ye may have somewhat to answer them which glory in appearance, and not in heart.” -2 Corinthians 5:12

I don’t think I have seen anyone reject being praised. Everyone, including babies love it when they are appreciated for a job well done. However, there is a limit to it. In as much as you love being praised and appreciated, you must not let it get into your head or get puffed up by it. As a minister, people will always commend you, especially if you are making impact.

Other than allowing their comments and commendation create pride in you, let it humble you by then turning all appreciation to God – the Doer of those marvellous works in your ministry. The reason why people get stoked by the praises of others is that, they have not learnt to turn them over to God. Oral Robert’s mother told him at one time of his ministry to remain small in his own eyes. It is not as if you don’t see your growth rate, but you acknowledge the fact that it couldn’t have been you, so you do not deserve all that praise—God does.

The truth is: when you turn all appreciations about your life and ministry over to God, you create an avenue to be continuously and richly engraced by Him (1 Peter 5:5). Also beware of the sources of those “high-rated” comments. Some of those people shouting and singing your praises today are those who would “crucify” you tomorrow. So, you must not give them the chance by allowing those comments get a better part of you.

Most importantly, especially in ministry, you must seek the commendation of God above all. His commendations are always right, and it doesn’t weaken you but propels you to move forward. Remaining humble by channelling all commendations to God is the secret to fulfilment in life and ministry. Therefore, make good use of it.

Remain Blessed!
