Topic: Divine Empowerment [Saturday April 23, 2016]

Text: Joshua 11:1-9

Key Verse: "And the LORD said unto Joshua, Be not afraid because of them: for tomorrow about this time will I deliver them up all slain before Israel: thou shalt hough their horses, and burn their chariots with fire" (Joshua 11:6).

The writer of the song, "If God be for us" had in the second stanza encouraged believers to be strong in the Lord. "Be strong in the Lord! rejoicing in His might, Be loyal and true day by day; When evils assail, be valiant for the right, And He will be our strength and stay. "Refrain: "If God be for us, if God be for us, if God be for us, who can be against us? Who? Who? Who? Who can be against us, against us?" A united force of kings came against Israel.

These kings thought that they had an advantage over them since theirs was a coalition greater in number than Israel. They were also more experienced and better equipped physically with horses and chariots. For this advantage, they arrogantly trusted their sophistication and military might. Even so, the promises of God are yea and Amen. Whenever He says "go", believers must take Him by His word because He never fails.

They must also be encouraged by His promises through His word. Joshua acted upon the instruction and buoyed by the encouraging words of God, the coalition of the Northern kings was easily subdued before Israel. Believers must realise that their invisible battles are daily being fought for them by God's numerous unseen armies. We must be conscious of the divine protection around us at all times. They that be for us are always more in number and in might than those against us.
