Lagos Town Hall Meeting: Hon Minister Fashola Was "Made In Nigeria."

When asked by a member of the audience at a Town Hall meeting that took place in Lagos today (April 25), why Nigerians opt for their children to study abroad, former Governor of Lagos, Hon. Babatunde Fashola proudly gave the audience an insight into his own "made in Nigeria" education.

Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Fashola SAN who was born in Lagos on June 28 1963, attended Birch Freeman High school Lagos and Igbobi College Lagos. He studied Law at the University of Benin from where he graduated with a Bachelor of Laws, LL.B. (Hon), degree in 1987.

"My education was in Nigeria; from primary school to university, he said, "I don't think my education was poor." If we produced that kind of education, I think we can do it again."

The Minister empathizing with an unemployed guest gave assurance that "status will change to fully and gainfully employed as our plans begin to unfold," however, he added that "it will not happen by saying so."

"People must have skills, Fashola enthused, stating that "within the Housing, Road, Power, Rail, Agric, Solid mineral sectors there is enormous scope for job creation, entrepreneurship and employment."

Recounting his days as a teenager, the 52-years poised several questions to the audience as well?

"Where did our gold smith go? As a child I can remember that there were goldsmiths on every street in Lagos. We still have the gold, why are we cleaning our gold in Dubai? The programme of solid Minerals will inevitably result in a renaissance in that sector."

Last month, the Presidency promised to inform citizens directly about its policy plans through Town Hall Meetings. Today's meeting which was attended by students, TUC members, NLC and Obas from the province touched on topic such as the missing Chibok girls.

The Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed who chaired the town hall meeting reassured the audience about the government's commitment to finding the missing girls who were abducted by the deadly terror sect over 2 years ago in Borno State.

Due to security reasons, Alhaji Lai was unable to give the full details of the war on terror led by Lt. General Tukur Yusuf Buratai. Over the past 11-month during the tenure of the President Muhammadu Buhari, the Nigerian army have taken back all territories from the deadly sect popularly known by boko rats, a moniker given to them by APC UK.

"The war on boko rats would not be closed until these girls are released. This country is very safe. Our security forces are working day and night. The government is working to secure the girls,” said Alhaji Lai as he closed the meeting.
