A housewife in Lagos, Mrs. Florence Njideka Chukwuma, has been arrested by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba, for allegedly attempting to set her husband of 18 years, Chinedu ablaze over a property.

The mother of five had allegedly bought a gallon of petrol, which she poured on Chinedu’s body. She then took a lighter to set him ablaze during a quarrel; but before she could achieve her aim, Chinedu jumped the fence and escaped, suffering injuries as a result of the attack.

She also allegedly destroyed some imported vehicles and house properties worth millions of naira and chased Chinedu out of their matrimonial home. The incident happened at No. 48, Olukotun Street, Ejigbo, where they reside before Chinedu was forced out of the house.

It was learnt that the man had filed for divorce before a Lagos High Court on grounds that he could no longer stand her alleged harassment and bullying. He claimed the traditional ruler of Nnewi in Anambra State, Kenneth Orizu, had annulled their union, but she refused to accept the decision.

According to Florence, she would not quit the marriage because she already has five children and the marriage was consummated for life. Confirming the incident, the state command’s spokesperson, Dolapo Badmos, a Superintendent of Police (SP) said investigation was ongoing on the matter.
