Dear Reader,

You are welcome to another time of encounter with God. For the past two weeks, we have seen wisdom and effective communication as secrets to marital bliss. This week, by the help of the Holy Spirit through God’s Word, God will be opening your eyes to another secret – Sharing Your Body with Your Spouse.

One of the secrets of a blissful marriage and home is for the husband and wife to learn to share their physical bodies with each other. Once you are married, you and your wife are to derive satisfaction from each other’s body. This means that the physical body of the husband belongs to the wife, while that of the wife belongs to the husband. God’s Word says: The wife hath not power of her own body, but the husband: and likewise also the husband hath not power of his own body, but the wife (1 Corinthians 7:4).

God created sex, and it is a major part of the marriage union. It is meant to be enjoyed exclusively by the husband and his wife after marriage. If you are not yet married, sex is a forbidden fruit for you.  It is only proper in the context of marriage. Outside marriage, sex is a sin. God’s Word says: Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body (1 Corinthians 6:18). All sexual relations outside marriage are forbidden by God, and are referred to as fornication. After marriage, one is to have sexual relations only with the marriage partner. Sexual relations with any other, is adultery. Hebrews 13:4 says: Marriage is honourable among all, and the bed undefiled; but fornicators and adulterers God will judge.

From the above text, it is clear that marriage is pure and holy. However, fornication and adultery damage marriage, and God will hold those who engage in such practices responsible, on the Day of Judgment.

Sex in marriage is purely an act of giving; so, it should be used only in its proper place and time, according to God’s master plan.  Your sex life affects your attitude positively or negatively. Sexual tension is one of the foundations of crises in many marriages and homes. But this can be avoided if the husband and wife will learn to share their physical bodies with each other.

When a husband and wife are truly united in body, it becomes easy to overcome temptations from outside. In marriage, sex is the ultimate in oneness between a husband and wife. The concept of marital intimacy is derived from the Biblical principle of oneness. Although the word ‘intimacy’ is not used in the Bible, the concept is found there. God says in Genesis 2:24: Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife; and they shall be one flesh. Intimacy is often thought of only in terms of the physical relationship. But when God says one should cleave to his wife, He is saying that there is total intimacy of spirit, soul and body. If there is no intimacy of the soul and spirit, then physical relationship will not be fulfilling.

However, the grace to do what is required to enjoy a blissful marriage can only be accessed by those who are children of God. You can become a child of God by confessing your sins and accepting Jesus as your Lord and Saviour. If you are set for it, please say this prayer: “Dear Lord Jesus Christ, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me of my sins and cleanse me with Your Blood. Deliver me from sin and satan to serve the living God. I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Make me a child of God today. Thank You for accepting me into Your Kingdom.”

If you prayed this simple prayer, you are now a child of God. He loves you and will never leave you. Read your Bible daily, obey God’s Word and seek Christian fellowship (John 14:21).
