Winning Wisdom: Submission

Topic: Submission [Thursday, 26th Jan. 2017]

For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that. James  4:15

When we hear 'submission' the first thing that comes to mind is "Wives submit to your husbands". The concept of submission is not limited to the marital relationship, neither did it start with the marital relationship. It started with Christ's relationship with His Bride (the Church; you and I). (Ephesians 5:24). So submission here refers to our relationship with God.

Submission is surrendering your will to someone, who is in this case, God. It's giving up your rights to make decisions on your own and for yourself. So many persons find this quite unimaginable because they're used to being "independent".

This mentality of "independence" will however not take a disciple, or one seeking to be a disciple of Christ far in the race of discipleship. Because the art of submission is a characteristic of discipleship.

Christ taught us total submission to the will of the Father in Matthew 26:39, when the hour of His death drew near, He cried "O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt." Jesus is the Son of God, and whatever He asked the Father would have provided (Matthew 26:53). But He "for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross". Let's look into the perfect example of Christ and learn how He submitted to the will of the Father in everything (John 14:10). Another reason we should submit to God is for the glory set before us. God knows all, and whatever He wills us do is for our ultimate good. (Jeremiah 29:11; Romans 8:28; Isaiah 55:9).

Submit to Him, you're not giving up your "independence", you're giving up your limits: "...and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty." (2 Corinthians 3:17). I call it dependently independent. The true test of discipleship is total submission to God.

Keep winning daily.

Prayer:
Dear God, thank you for calling me to discipleship. I seek to submit completely to You, but I know it is not of me, but of You, for You give the grace both to will and to do according to Your good works. Thank you Lord for Your perfect will. In Jesus'name. Amen.
