But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money. (Acts 8:20)
Acts 8:9-24 tells of the ministry of the gospel in Samaria, of the miracles done by the apostles through the Holy Spirit, of how a certain man named Simon offered Peter money to purchase the power of Holy Spirit so he too could lay hands on people and do various miracles. Peter's answer to Him was clear "thou Hast neither part nor lot In this matter: for thy heart is not right in the sight of God." (Acts 8:21).
Some of us today think that we can purchase the gifts of the Holy Spirit and His power with money. We give seeds, not in honour and worship of God, but in exchange for something we want. Don't get me wrong, it's good to give. Seeds are important (Ecclesiastes 11:6; Philippians 4:15-17). And there are times when we use our seeds to target specific needs. But if you give thinking that Your giving will benefit you the gifts of the Holy Spirit and His manifestation, then your "heart is not right in the sight of God".
Now the gifts of God through the Holy Spirit are given freely. Romans 8:32 says "he that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?". Also 1 Corinthians 10:26 tells us "for the earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof." What then do you think you can give to Him to equal the gifts He gives. To get the gift of the Holy Spirit and His manifestation, all you have to do is earnestly desire of God, and He'll give freely (1 Corinthians 12:31; 14:1).
Keep winning daily.
Prayer:
Dear Lord, I'm sorry for thinking that the gift of your Holy Spirit can be purchased with mere paper; of this I repent. Set my heart right with You. I desire the gift of your Spirit and His manifestation. I believe You give freely, and from you I receive, in Jesus' Name. Amen.
