Topic: Perfect Love For All [Friday January 29, 2016]
Text: Romans 12:9-21
Key Verse: "Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good" (Romans 12:9).
Paul the apostle, in our text, reiterated Christ's position, evidently describing genuine love as a cardinal virtue of a Christian life.
He noted particularly that it must be sincere and devoid of hypocrisy. Aside from the fact that Christians must see themselves as a family, which will enable them to adequately appreciate true love, Paul pointed out that in living it out, they must equally honour other people, even more than themselves, and hate evil. Apostle Paul equally asserted that Christians must work hard in God's service with hope, patience and prayer. They should also be hospitable and generous, forbearing insult, sympathising with other people, living in unity with others and avoiding retaliation, no matter how they may have been hurt.
The pertinent question is: how many of us, who claim to be Christians, actually live out these virtues? Do we really see ourselves as a family in the Household of Faith, bearing one another's burden? Today, quite a lot of people, even Christians, manifest hatred towards others. Some, because of position-seeking in the church, see others as rivals and enemies. Animosity and disunity now creep into their lives and the church. Some are never sympathetic to their fellow Christians' predicaments. Instead, they rejoice in their affliction and suffering. Repentance is the principal thing. God abhors unholy relationships.
Hatred is evil, but love is comely. Being kind to your enemies may make them regret their actions. You do not need to hate your enemies. A Christian who hates The Bible others is not a true child of Christ. Evil deeds cannot defeat someone who is evil. So, Christians can only overcome evil powers when they do the right things.
Thought for the day: Love is the cardinal imperative which overcomes all odds.
