Topic: God Answers Prayers [Thursday January 28, 2016]

Text: 2 Chronicles 6:12-21

Key Verse: "Have respect therefore to the prayer of thy servant, and to his supplication, O LORD my God, to hearken unto the cry and the prayer which thy servant prayeth before thee" (2 Chronicles 6:19).

We often search for solution to our problems everywhere else except where it matters most: from the prayer of thy servant, and God.

Our problems blind us to our best interests, and they make God appear so distant or even unconcerned about our pressing circumstances. Yet, genuine succour can only come when we talk to God King Solomon knew this. He had in prayer about our needs. just completed the building of the temple in Jerusalem. He wasn't going to throw the doors open to the public without first praying intensely to God. To do this, he knelt down before God in the sight of his people.

It was an act of total submission and subservience to the higher authority and sovereignty of almighty God. He repeatedly introduced himself to God as "thy servant". He at once began praising God for His faithfulness to his father, David, and the people of Israel. He then prayed that God should fulfill all that He had promised David, hear his cry, prayer and supplication. He pleaded with God to answer all the prayers he and the people of Israel would make in the temple from then onward, and that He would, as necessary, forgive all their sins.

We must never forget that the almighty God is compassionate towards us. He loves and cares for us; and He is concerned about all the challenges we face in life, irrespective of how difficult they may seem. He desires the best for us as His children. He, therefore, wants us to pray and trust Him not only to hear, but grant our requests. However, we must ensure that we know Him as our Father, and that we are doing things that The Bible please Him always. For only then can He reach out to us when we appear before Him with our prayers.

Thought for the day: There is no limit to what God can do for those who call upon Him.
