Socialiga, Microsoft collaborate to use technology to coordinate grassroots soccer among youths…

Nigeria, Lagos: In a bid to show that technology is important in every aspect of our lives, Microsoft Nigeria has announced it is partnering with Socialiga, the organizers of the 2016 The SociaLiga Football League which kicks off on Saturday, 28th May 2016 and would run for six months (May -  November) (10 Game Weeks).

According to the organizers of the football league, the sporting event will help hundreds of young people discover and fulfill their passion, keeping them fit and productive, as well as effectively providing a platform for them to utilize their time offline, and as well, promote the games effectively on social media.

Also, the competition would afford consumers, leveraging the football league to educate them on the vulnerabilities consumers expose themselves to, when they use pirated software, while also directing them on the right path to locating genuine software.

The Citizenship Manager, Microsoft Nigeria, Olusola Amusan who commented on the partnership, noted Microsoft’s commitment to empowering individuals to achieve more, by highlighting activities undertaken by Microsoft within the Middle East and Africa region to empower youth, make them relevant and useful to their countries and most importantly, to themselves.

“In the past, the Microsoft YouthSpark Program has provided access to teaming opportunities, career development, international exchange programs and internships for talented Nigerian youths. We see supporting SociaLiga, as essential to helping young people find expression through technology-enabled sports and social media; and this underscores that we will go the extra mile to empower the Nigerian Youths.”

He added, “In this partnership, Microsoft will empower SociaLiga foundation with the technology that will help it manage volunteers, projects and scale up its impact—this is actually a part of our Community Software Donation program”

Also speaking on the partnership, Managing Director, SociaLiga, Opeyemi Tokoya expressed his excitement on the partnership. “I am very happy that Microsoft has recognized the hard work it takes to keep The SociaLiga a success, and have chosen to partner with us. Through this collaboration, we hope to offer more opportunities to young people and to adequately reward those who already strive to keep the initiative a success with their support.”

Commenting further on the Partnership, Channel Marketing Manager, Consumer Channel Group, Microsoft Nigeria, Bunmi Bialose explained that the partnership is also an opportunity to connect with football fans and drive home the message for individuals to purchase original products.

She added that “more often than not, consumers of pirated software totally ignore the warnings against using pirated software because they believe it is nothing but an attempt by the software owners to get their money. However, there are much more to the problem of piracy than mere profit. Pirated software does pose real risks to those that consume them”.
