EFCC arrests former minister of interior, Abba Moro

The man who superintended over the deaths of young Nigerian job seekers in the spring of 2014, Abba Moro, has been arrested by the EFCC.

Arrested alongside Moro is the former Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Anaesthesia Nwaobia, and a deputy director who allegedly facilitated the job scam.

Abba Moro was minister of interior when the Nigerian immigration service carried out a shoddy and fraudulent job recruitment exercise which saw thousands of young Nigerians pack full stadiums across the land for limited job vacancies; after parting away with N1,000 each.

The ensuing stampede claimed the lives of 20 of them.

Investigations into the scam during the Jonathan era ended in the trash can.

“They were brought into the commission’s headquarters today and will be arraigned on a 12-count charge in the Federal High Court Abuja on Tuesday,” an EFCC source told online newspaper, Premium Times.

Some of the charges against Mr. Moro and his colleagues include obtaining by false pretense, procurement offences, corrupt practices and money laundering.
