Nigerian Elections: A year on

The March 2015 election was the first time Nigerians were able to change a government through the ballot box.

A year after the D-Day, Muhammadu Buhari who succeeded in defeating an incumbent President on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) with his carefully chosen Ministers and Special Advisers are still dedicated to the fight against corruption, building infrastructure and battle against Boko Haram.

President Buhari's decision to appoint new Service Chiefs and to set a deadline in the war on the deadly terrorist haunting the people in the northern part of Nigeria gave a clear indication of what our Commander-In-Chief aimed to achieve unlike the past administration. The new administration has done a lot to inform citizens about the war against the deadly sect known as Boko Haram and it is paying off.

The new APC-led administration was able to react quickly to locate and rescue the school girls that were abducted by masked men in Ikorodu. Unfortunately the Dr. Goodluck Jonathan-led government failed to quickly acknowledge the abduction of the Chibok girls. Governor Kashim Shettima has confirmed that it took 19 days for a call from Dr Jonathan after the girls were kidnapped. The slow reaction of the ruling PDP party at the time, hindered the rescue of the Chibok girls, many who still remain in captivity since April 2014.

The President is not only leading a great offensive against Boko Haram, there is also an aggressive fight against corruption. Thanks to this APC led government, the anti corruption agency EFCC has brought several corruption charges against individuals involved in various fraudulent practices.

The APC government will begin town hall meetings over the months to pass information directly to Nigerians; this is a good step that would allow citizens to participate in the changes taking place in the country.

APC UK commends President Muhammadu Buhari and his team in their dedication to bring about the desired change for Nigerians. Clearing a 16-year mess in 10 months could never have been easy.
